F1 23 Ranked Multiplayer - Itemised Feedback

Hello fellow F1 23 racers,

I hope you're all ready to dive into some constructive feedback because there are some pressing issues with the online ranked points system and the lobby system that we can't ignore any longer. It's time to address these frustrations and work towards making F1 23 an even better gaming experience for everyone.

1. Opacity of Online Ranked Points System: The lack of transparency in the online ranked points system is truly perplexing. It's like driving blindfolded; there's no way to gauge how many points you'll earn in a race. This uncertainty can be incredibly disheartening, especially when you're putting your all into each race. We need a clearer understanding of how our performance affects our points.

2. Lobby System Desperation: Finding a full lobby feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. And let's face it, a half-filled lobby often translates to half the points you could earn from a race. This disparity between effort and reward doesn't sit well with gamers. As time goes on, fewer people will be inclined to play ranked, and this is not the direction we want to see the game heading.

3. Mysterious Point Deductions: Some of us have experienced bizarre point deductions for seemingly no reason at all. Losing 30 to 50 points for exiting a lobby with fewer players before qualifying begins is nothing short of soul-crushing. The balance between points gained and lost needs serious attention, and it's demoralizing for players to endure this unpredictability.

4. Unfair In-Game Incidents: It's disheartening to start a race, only to have someone brake-check you, causing a DNF and a hit to your points tally. Meanwhile, the dirty driver escapes with little to no consequences. This inequity needs immediate correction.

5. Ineffectiveness of the Penalty System: While we appreciate the move towards a stricter penalty system, it often takes a staggering number of warnings to receive a penalty commensurate with one's infractions. This undermines the integrity of the competition and leaves room for unfair play.

6. Clarity in Points and Progression: What we need, as players with diverse commitments, is an itemized breakdown of what influences the end result and the points awarded. This way, we can make informed decisions about how to allocate our time effectively.

I'd like to emphasize that this feedback comes from a UX designer's perspective, and it's clear that without changes, player count in online ranked races may dwindle over time. We all want to see F1 23 thrive, and addressing these issues is crucial to achieving that goal.

So, let's rally together and voice our concerns constructively. Share your thoughts and ideas on how we can collectively improve the online ranked experience in F1 23. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that the F1 23 community continues to grow and flourish. 🏎️💨

  • I really agree with all of your points, even though I reached the Elite division in Season 1, I have now stopped playing Ranked because it takes way too long to find a full lobby as you soon as you reach Gold 2/3. I think many people feel the same, I feel like the playerbase for Ranked has already declined significantly in the last few weeks.

A suggestion I would add is to reintroduce 5 lap races for Ranked, maybe alongside 25% races, so you can choose whether you want to drive a longer or shorter race. The 5 lap race would obviously reward you less points but this way, a DNF might be less costly and you can drive more races to make up for it.

  • Uhm more and better matchmaking between assist and non assist players. I got overtaken on imola over grass! He gets 5 second penalty, but since they can brake and accelerate on curbs as if they are flat, the off track punishment is non existent for them in case of losibg control, I don’t really feel it’s a FAIR competition. That’s why i don’t do ranked anymore. No point in racing with 1 hand tied behind my back. Especially since they have zero disadvantage in point count compared to the non assist players. Unranked at least you can find lobbies with High assist filter. Not that that gives certainly non assist lobbies since having everything to full, but pointless stuff like drs/ers/pit assist off makes it a lobby “worthy” of making it a high restriction lobby, which of course is a joke.

  • For me point 4 is the most frustrating. Dirty Drivers get away with almost no consequences.

I'm also fed up with help players who do anything. And for me, the most painful thing is pit assistance. For example, I just had an extremely frustrating race at Silverstone. I start 10th, I move up to 4th place and as I enter the pits, some * with pit assist activated comes at full speed without bothering to brake when he sees me slowing down before the limit line pit speed. So he destroyed my car and threw me into the car in front of me which also had to retire... It's not possible. So I went back to the menu and there I noticed that I had lost 50 points. This is not normal and very frustrating. And the fact of returning to the menu following retirement also makes us lose points on the license and that is not normal either because we are obliged to remain spectators of the race if we do not want to lose points, and it's very long and useless. This is rubbish.

  • Yea I'm pretty sure the ranked system is actually worse at separating skill levels than it was in F1 22 for the following reasons:

    1. The way in which you gain ranks favours time played rather than actual performance and you are put in fresh lobbies when you enter your first race. This means you can enter a race towards the end of the week and only need to do a quarter of the races someone who started at the beginning of the week would need to do. Equally, someone who puts in a lot of time and comes 7th every race could beat someone on points who puts in less time but finishes first each race. So it's not truly a skill representation of progression.
    2. The first lap ghost car system in safety rating B is actually a hinderence to good racing mainly because the cars aren't visibally ghosted all the time, meaning people don't know when the ghosting ends or whether the ghosting is on at all until they have made contact with someone to find out. If you're going to have a first lap ghost system then the cars should be visually ghosted the entire first lap so people know when the ghosting ends. This is particularly an issue when safety rating lobbies are merged because of a lack of players. ( I also think this first lap ghosting is bugged and does not turn off in normal multiplayer lobbies at the moment. This is a separate bug)
    3.  It is possible to gain safety rating vs AI or in single player and this carries over to your multiplayer races. So everyone, even those who don't normally perform clean laps in multiplayer can easily hold and maintain A saftey rating. The safety rating needs to be much more penalising so that players are appropriately put in lobbies of equal driving capability, or lack thereof. Getting brake checked or rammed off the road by A safety rating players is all too common in ranked multiplayer and this shouldn't be the case. The top safety ratings should end up with clean drivers if the system was working well.
  • I cannot stand the point deduction system with ranked online. I’m on the verge of never playing again because of the amount of work it takes to get these points and how quickly they can go away. I am in division Silver 1, was on my way to Gold 1 I had 93 points. After one race it dropped me down to 53… it took SEVERAL races to get to 93 , mostly podiums may I add! I had to quit this specific race because someone crashed me out and I had damage to my rear wing making it almsot impossible to drive so I decided to retire. Why do I get penalized so heavily for * holes in this game!!!

  • @Moustagua Ruined the game for me.. takes tons of good racing to build points and they wipe it all away with a crash that’s not your fault
  • It's crazy how many post there are asking for the same changes to be made to Ranked Lobbies and they have done zero of them. Heck, they won't even respond to the post. I was on the cusp of gold this past week, I only get may 6 to 10 races in a week so if I want to rank up I can't leave a lobby when I'm taken out. So instead of playing the game I'm just sitting there for 15 to 20 minutes. Nothing has been done to improve matchmaking and its so easy to get and keep an A rating it renders it useless.  And for the love of racing please stop asking me if I want to join a lobby at a lower rating...why would anyone want to race below A?

Anywho, I'm not buying 24 if Ranked isn't revamped since it's the mode I play 99% of the time. It's the best chance, which is pretty sad, at getting in a multiplayer for those of us that can't grind endlessly.

Sadly, I know this reply is a waste because they literally don't care.

  • Honestly, EA could care less about what we think because everyone is still gonna buy the game. EA is known for just copying and pasting the same sports games year after year because they have a monopoly on these certain sports games. They know they don't have to improve anything because there's no competition (mainly speaking for all console players). We're stuck with what we got unfortunately. EA hasn't cared about its consumers for some time now and there's 0 indication that it will change. Then when they discontinue series or sports series they balme it on the fact that  noone wants to play because its not popular, but the truth is Noone wants to play because they put the same stuff out year after year with no improvement. There's a reason EA is known as one of if not the worst gaming company out there. 0 care for the games or their player base.

  • @spudb0x 100% agree with all the items, specially the points system.. I am an idiot who likes to plat games, and i feel utmost hate for myself and for EA everytime i do 10+ clean laps but LOSE points afterwards cause i got spun, had to do a pit stop and ended up below my qualifying position... ranked mode is nuts.. i really hope 2K gets F1 license in the future to publish F12K smt like it happened on FIFA, I dont think it would be as bad as EA.
