Input Locking after about an hour of playing

Product: F1 23
Platform:PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
Summarize your bug After playing the game for a little over 1 hour, I start experiencing a bug where my controller input locks in place for a few seconds (5~10 seconds). This bug keeps occurring every few minutes after that making the game unplayable. It also persists if I close and reopen the game, the only way to get rid of the bug is to completely reboot my PC, but as stated that only gives roughly an hour of bug free play before it starts again.
What is your 16 digit Report Code?
Can you please provide the name of your current internet service provider? Virgin Media
Which area is the bug/glitch in? Single Player
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Play the game for an extended period 1-2 hours+ I'm playing with a USB controller on a machine with 16GB of RAM, and 8GB of VRAM (RTX 3070Ti)
What happens when the bug occurs? The controller inputs lock up, which usually results in crashing the car while in a racing session.
What do you expect to see? For this not to happen

My best guess is that it's some kind of memory leak issue given that it only starts happening after playing for over an hour.

But that said I'm surprised I've not seen anyone else reporting it because 1-2 hours is not that long of a gaming session, and 16GB RAM is what most players will likely be running.

I did have a similar input locking issue with F1 22, but it was less consistent or took longer into a game session to start occurring so I was usually able to avoid it.

  • @AshFrankland94 What FFB are you using? Very possibly clipping due to high FFB and prolonged play. Also the motors in the controller can overheat leading to less responsiveness or even cut out. I use relatively low FFB but still tend to pause and let controller rest for a few minutes every hour.
  • I'll take a look next time I play, but I've never noticed any excessive heat or unresponsiveness of the FFB, just the inputs from the controller.

I use an Xbox controller, but have tested out multiple Xbox controllers, and have even used an old Stadia controller which doesn't even have trigger motors, and they all seemed to experience the same issue in the same time frame.

  • So, I've investigated this issue more with no luck in finding the cause or a solution.

Though as an extension of the initial reported problem, I now know it exists/has existed since as early as F1 2015, as I recently was playing that and after a few multi-hour play sessions on it had the identical problem multiple times.

Post a dxdiag as this is most definitely a "you" problem.
