Joining multiplayer race during qualifying
When you enter spectator mode for an online qualifying session, sometimes it says "You can choose to participate in the session at any time." How can I do that?

Use the spectator menu to go on the free car. It will show the car with the real life f1 drivers name. And then you click on it and select "take control".
