I often play 2018, 2019 and 2020 because I find career modes more enjoyable. Game wasn't focusing on multiplayer so much at the time so Codies spent more time making it better for single player mode.
And I agree with @ScarDuck14 , game often cheats in 21, 22 and 23 more visibly if you're "out of place" based on your car performance. And that's seems even regardless of AI difficulty.
Which I find a bit annoying because I use custom setups and they may give me an advantage over AI drivers. Also, my driving style allows me to personalise strategy for race, I often use S/M tyres rather than M/H for one-stop strategy, and less fuel load. And that allows me to jump faster cars which game interprets as not allowed and punish me with DNFs, broken DRS, lower ERS harvesting or other impediments.
And I miss classic F1 cars and other tracks so playing older games brings some extra joy.

From my point of view I'm enjoying so much the new handling/brake bias that I don't even have the thought of play F1 2020 (or any previous title).
I play Time Trial and GP mode, but due to the recent TT wipe I postponed the beginning of my 100% race length season, so I cannot say much about AI behavior so far. I'm also not so sure to increase the speed of AI was necessary but I cannot say much more. I will try to be Perez at 110 AI hoping to get some podium and probably in some tracks just fight for small points.
Instead, I've already done some race pace tests, I start from a wear of 30% to choose my setup and I have to say I like the way the car behaves with load of fuel and worn tyres, I also like the non-linear performance on worn tyres, which is more realistic.
So far F1 23 the best ever IMHO

@P4st3l1ak yes I miss classic cars too, especially that awesome sound, my only reason to pick up a previous game is this one

Whenever I finish playing Asseto Corsa, I have a smile on my face. Whenever I finish playing F123, I want to hit something. t's better that F122, but that's hardly praise. I too am going back to F12020
- Apophis-STR2 years agoSeasoned Ace@Nuvolarix The increase of Ai difficulty in 23 was definitely necessary, the ceiling was simply way too low pre-patch. If someone like me could beat 110 Ai comfortably with a pad whilst not relying on flashback then there's an issue imo.
I like to see myself struggle then slowly fight my way up but without an end to chase after that peak, so It's way better now.- Nuvolarix2 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Apophis-STR yes I agree if that’s the case. I have not tested myself yet so I have no info about, however it’s done, it looks around 3-4 tenths faster at 110 as average, at least in Quals.
Actually I always thought it was better to have closer steps at 100+ (we know the difference from 110 and 109 is higher than 100-99 for example, something like 2x). I always thought the progression could continue linear and end at 120, also because it’s where you get close to your limit that you rather need fine tuning… 🤷♂️
