Ranked is a waste of time.

Sorry if I sound like a broken record at this point... but ranked MP is basically a waste of time at this point.

To set the scene... I'm about 100 points behind promotion before this race at Monza.

Qualify 10th in a full lobby.

Decent start, make it through the chicane without problems and find myself in 10th.

Some idiot from the back of the grid straight lines the corner, takes out me and 2 or 3 others, I get wing damage and somehow it's me that gets the time penalty for a serious collision.

Fast forward to the pit stop, different idiot with pit assist on slams into the back of me at the limiter line and now I have a pit lane speeding penalty.

Then I get held up in the put box as somehow we have teammates in multiplayer and I got stacked behind them.

Couple of laps later the host crashes out and leaves, the entire lobby resets back to the grid, but half the grid can just drive off and start their race with a half-lap head start before the lights go out for the rest of us...

Finally finishing the second race, I am literally coming around parabolica for the LAST CORNER of the race and the session times out.

End result?

I lose 48 points.

What. The.?

Why should I even bother with multiplayer at this point?

@DannyTas83 There's a reason I usually stayed as far away as possible from these random online lobbies, it's either a bored fest where player skills are completely all over the place, or a crash fest that made you question about your life decisions.

This game is never going to attract all serious clean racers. As most arcade/simcades dont. As I like long races I’d never join a public lobby. My blood pressure couldn’t handle it.

Im guessing best way to get some kind of clean racing in ranked would be to rank up as quickly as possible. Or to find a league to join. The latter is probably best bet. However that means being available to race to a schedules.

Alternatives are to race on proper hardcore sims like IRacing

The problem with ranking up to avoid the morons is that you either have to be winning races or finishing consistently and often. If you have a lapse in decent finishes or play time, you're back to the bottom rung.
Ranked needs to restrict pit assists and use strict corner cutting at the bare minimum. Achieving licence A is insanely easy unless you crash in to multiple people every race. Below is the start of an A Licence race:

I pitted for hards, had a good battle with a couple of others. Then at the end, someone who'd run out of fuel in the last lap crashed me in to the wall on the Hangar Straight. Thankfully, I still "classified" and picked up some ranking points.
EDIT: To add to the above, get this auto recovery stuff gone too. Awful.

I don't understand why people waste their time with ranked in racing games, just stick to an organised league outside of the game with people you can trust.
You're just asking for frustration, you can't expect strangers to care about your experience or feelings and you can apply that to anything in life sadly.

@matty0blobber Problem with leagues is as I said before. Everyone available at a specific time. I never know what I’m doing from one hour to the next 🤷🏻‍♂️

I agree with all the racing problems above. I drive with no assists, being ranked against players who have all assists is just plain dumb. There is no way to rank or compare in F1 23 since there is no weekly event that takes into account what assists are being used. I have no incentive to race online at all now. A racing game that has no fair competition. I will do Time Trials and race AI, compete against myself, I might as well just play golf.

@AllanWeigand A good driver with a wheel and without assists would beat a driver with assists as the assists make you slower. I think people overestimate the actual impact of assists here. I think they should be seen as an accessibility feature and nothing else.

@matty0blobber As @ScarDuck14 has said below, league racing comes down to committing to a specific time, which not everyone can do.

I race and steward in a league already and that's my commitment of one night where my son's in bed 10mins early and my missus doesn't mind waiting until 8:30 for dinner. 😄

Otherwise, I like to hop on the game and race online before bed, or before work if I've got a spare 30mins. It's not good enough to say that Ranked will always be horrendous when plenty of people have suggested changes to improve this.

@dotazured Again, I think this comes down to playtime. I can do well around tracks I know despite only turning off the assist for 23 because I have a good idea of which gear to be in and how much traction I'll get in to, through and out of each corner. But the tracks I don't race often, people with assists (including the OP ABS) have an advantage.

The racing line is also the biggest assist of them all and is rarely mentioned. I think there should be an icon for it on TT leaderboards and if people want restrictions on assists in higher ranked lobbies (either skill-level or, preferably, licence), the racing line needs to go too.

@Pepski Your suggestion would disallow players with visual impairment, motor dysfunction or other impairments to be able to play and compete against better drivers who drive without assists. This is the form of gatekeeping and segregation this community doesn't need. If you only want to play against people that don't use assists, may I suggest joining leagues instead and leaving the more "casual" game modes alone?
