Rivalries are ridiculous

I’m in my first season of My Team, sitting mid table with the 5th best car according to the development screen. Why are the “rival” options I am given Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, both of whom are in far superior cars and 100+ points ahead of me on the season?

My rival options should be from the teams I am fighting in the Constructor’s Championship and the drivers I am fighting in the Driver’s Championship.
