Setting ai to realistic lap times

I found a nice discussion on simracing setups which looks into real world quali laps v F1 game ai:

https://simracingsetup.com/f1-2021-game/f1-2021-realistic-ai-difficulty/

This is for 2021, and I found it very interesting that since, the cars have got a bit slower. 2022/2023 we got 1.30 and Max got a 1.29

The topic goes on to say for a realistic real world experience, set the ai to 80 for Bahrain

I know this probably doesn't help the experts out there, playing on 110, but I want to have a realistic experience

80 would blow me away btw, but then that's not really the average, as other tracks come in different setting

some in the 90's.

So the average would be 90 for all the season, so anyone that is intermediate (like me) that wants a realistic experience for a full season

could try setting the ai to 90 and see how they go, I am going to try this even if I can't make the delta's.

I always wanted a realistic experience as a rookie in F1 in a bottom team, or MyTeam and see the progress over the season.

What do you guys think?

  • f1laps has an ai calculator where you take your PBs from time trial and you get a realistic ai level for your race. Not sure how accurate this is for F1 23 yet, but you will have to change the ai level for every single track since Codemasters don't use a universal ai pacing for the game, but individual ai pacing per track. Bahrain, for example, is a track where the ai pace is extremely slow. Not sure why Codemasters don't use the same ai pacing for all the tracks though...

  • I’m running 85 as my standard setting. Had to set it to 80 at Baku as was struggling a bit but not sure if that was just me or the ai a bit stronger

On f122 I ran 75,  set Jeddah and Silverstone and Zandvoort  5 higher than my standard, Monaco 10 lower and Singapore 5 lower

last 2 races on f123 Jeddah and Melbourne  I’ve had floor damage on lap1 so pace vs 85 still a bit unsure, seems about right for me in practice and qualy though.

  • @EyTschej what if they are using exactly the same AI (which would be easier to implement) but that doesn't translate into realistic track times given each track's characteristics?

I would really love if difficulty 100 was the actual pace of each driver in every GP and 110 was esports times.
  • I’m on 91 rating and it’s very realistic. Not sure in terms of times but Max is well ahead, then Sergio and Ferraris behind that with me (Alonso) and the Mercs behind them and after that is a mish mash every race (apart from Seargant and Di Vries).

  • @JOCK1983 I haven't had one single race like that. Can't really point out why there are different experiences.

Yeah, the reason I would like a "realistic" mode is role playing as a rookie, in a bottom team, or even a mid field team in career where your lack of skill would undoubtedly show.

I ran Bahrain at 80 last night to get a "feel" but the fastest lap in quali (for Max) was a 1.31. We know in RL Max did a 1.29 so that's a defo up to 90.

Gonna give it a go in MyTeam, but with the mid field start, no-one comes to F1 empty handed even as a new team we would have backers with the cash.

The point is even at 80 I qualified 7th. This just isn't right at all, so notching the ai up to 90 should have Max up to 1.29/30 and me down in anywhere from 12th to 17th which is about right.

I got a good start from 7th and only ended up with a "train" of cars behind me that couldn't, or wouldn't pass me. (something I think codies needs to address)

The point is to grow and develop as a driver over time, as the game should be.

@BinkyStrider I roleplay like that in my head in Driver Career Mode but the games doesn't exactly help with the immersion so I often have to add limitations to the game mechanics, e.g. the upgrades are automatic (decided by the team), I don't move teams mid season if that's my first season with them, stuff like that. It is quite possible if you have the imagination.

Just tested a new MyTeam play on a midfield new start (so I can hire icons)

    ai set to 90

Fastest lap quali Perez @ 1.30 (which is realistic)

I managed to get into Q2 but damn I had to drive like the devil.

    Ended up going out 16th

But this is what I am looking for, my teammate was behind me in 19th.

Not bad, not bad at all.

The fight for the championship starts here.

I played several starting season in my team and progression is extremely fast I start as novice team and in one season I have the best car and practically unlock 70-75% of stuff

i felt that I had to use reduce RD money team exp and driver xp and do only 50% of the practice program to keep a decent speed and probably get to best car in 3 maybe 4 years

I tried to use increased RD and money for AI but it has a bug and give you more RD from practice program to the player too (weird bug)

I think they should heavily rebalance my team for 2024
