Tracks with bad grip

Yesterday I raced in Baku (coop season with Ferrari) and noticed that Baku was really horrible to drive in F1 23.

I was really shocked how bad the grip was.

Before I bought F1 23 we played F1 21 for severeal seasons and there we didn't have this problem. Grip was fine. In F1 19 I remember also bad grip conditions in Baku.

It is sooo difficult to find the right breaking point and it seems there is almost no breaking effect. It remembered me on F1 19.

Besides the Problems mentioned in this thread

https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/Traction-or-lack-of-with-controller-in-slow-speed-corners/m-p/12809254#M9017

we were able to compete in Bahrain and Australia with P3 and P4 on Difficulty 96, but we were nowhere in Baku. It was so frustrating.

Have you made the same expierences? Have you noticed other tracks which have similiar bad grip conditions on track? Especially for Pad users these tracks are a Fun-Killer it seems.

@DonBlanko As someone who races on both wheel and pad, I also have experienced poor grip at Baku with both types (I've posted about this very thing in the past week).

You're absolutely correct about the AI (was going to make a reply about this yesterday) in that it's too high by about 1.5 seconds for the difficulty compared to other circuits, and that in turn has a knock-on effect of A. the AI disappearing out of sight after several laps, when on other circuits you'd be comfortably in among the pack, and B. causes you to try too hard and spin out on what is already a difficult track due to the surface type.

Worse still, the AI doesn't suffer from the same issues and obstacles as the player does. It's essentially on pre-programmed rails, each difficulty giving a target time, and any spins you witness are "canned events" (that actual phrase is used in the XML code), where it will just randomly cause a car to spin at several pre-determined points on the circuit. It's a horribly false and scripted way of trying to portray Artificial Intelligence when there's no real intelligence to begin with. It doesn't think or behave for itself. It can't even move out of the way of a car stuck on the track, it'll just sit there, causing all the other cars to sit behind that in one big numb-brained queue...

The only way to solve the problem of the AI being too quick is to drop your difficulty level by 15 (this is what I've found anyway). No shame in it, especially when the game is so inconsistent. An added factor of dropping the difficulty is that by every 10% (so levels 100, 90, 80, 70 and so on on) you gain a tiny percentage of grip. This was a thing I found in the difficulty files of the 2012 era games and I believe it's still present today, judging by the feel of the car on pad anyway.

But it would be ideally wonderful to get a new AI model which struggles with grip, tyre wear, tyre temps, dry and wet lines in real time, as opposed to the fakery we have right now. But I've been crying out for that for 7 years now, so I wouldn't hold my breath...

@ScarDuck14 Nah, you're right. I can't stand gatekeeping, especially when it's over a game that thinks its audience wants breakdancing podium celebrations over improved career modes. 😁
  • Agree Baku is v difficult I had to turn ai setting down by 12, but still retired early as I was so far behind due to several trips down escape roads under braking

Probably yours problems are setup, the game set setup 4 by default because long straights but are terrible to baku corners, and setup 2 are good to corners but horrible to main straight, try that

i don´t have any problem in baku here

@DonBlanko Since your on a pad I want to ask a question......in F1 22 did you notice the delay some people said was going on when you change directions?
I'm thinking probably your answer is going to be no.
During the Beta 2 things stood out.
1...2 handling models My team/Career and another for GP mode.
2...The My team/Career mode steering was twitchy.

I'm one of the players who DIDN'T notice the delay in F1 22,21 and 20.
I think it's causing issues and I wish we had the option to go back to the original steering we had before.

@thiago_ssj Thank you! There are some good ideas in the video, maybe a bit to oversteery in corner entry.
I should check this out. My Problem is that I don't try setup which have extrem values. Maybe I should do that more often.

@BadMayh3m I didn't play F1 2022. I often wait two years for the next game and last year read a lot of complains about bugs so I waited for the next game.

I play with a wheel from tanatec but my mate is using the pad.

It would be rediculus, if there are really different handling models in different game modes (GP mode, Carreer, online....)

@s00zster Good to see, that you feel exactly the same. I really don't like to adjust the difficulty each race.. In f1 21 the AI was also very unbalanced but I managed it so far and just adjusted difficulty after a season oder maybe after each half because of the development bug.

But maybe I should do it like you said. But its so difficult to find the right AI level if you only drove the practice before, when doing career. Its hard to see which level could be the best. And I really don't want to check out every Grand Prix on time trial before I go on with my Coop Career mode.

@DonBlankoto be competitive on high difficulty levels you need adjust setups in majority of tracks, if you don´t want lose time finding and testing different setups have tracks you can only set a different pre setup because the game set a wrong pre setup to you, like hungary the game set by default setup 3, and setup 2 are so better to him, like suzuka, the game set by default setup 3 or 4, but setup 2 are so better too
