F1® 24 [Megathread] Handling Feedback after patch v1.6

Hi everyone,

our newest patch v1.6 just released yesterday that included some further changes to the handling.

Most notable:

  • Rebalanced the Medium Traction Control setting
  • When driving over kerbs, cars will now be more unsettled, with sausage kerbs in particular having a greater impact on vehicle stability
  • Having a very high amount of Engine Braking is now less likely to cause the player to lock up their brakes
  • AI are now less likely to lock up when using a low amount of pressure on their brakes
  • Tyre pressure adjustments will now have more of an effect on tyre grip and heat

You can find the full list of changes in the patch notes here:

Please use this megathread to share your thoughts and additional feedback after the recent patch but keep it handling related or use our Patch 1.6 Discussion Thread

We appreciate your input, and thank you for all your passion!

Happy racing!

  • After spending a few more hours with 1.7, I can confirm that it definitely feels better on wheel and pedals than it did before, at least with my personal setups.  The underlying throttle issue (lack of RPM response) is 100% still there, but I'm seeing more predictability during race starts (though starts are still tricky due to the throttle response in low gears) and corner exits.  Some of the unpredictability comes back when really pushing for quali laps, but I think that's reasonable to expect.

All in all, it feels closer to where it should be for wheel and pedals.  Doesn't quite feel great yet, but definitely better than launch.

I instead ask if it is possible to make the changes requested by the great David by September. I would like to see much less grip and all the other balances that need to be done, I really appreciated what David wrote and I hope that the team will take his feedback into consideration already now to improve the game even more. Can someone from the team give me an answer? @EA_Groguet

@mikyesposto1 David didnt ask for much less grip though, in fact in some areas the grip is already too low IMO.. But its when you over do it that the grip keeps up too long, thats what David was referring to. Just reducing grip even more would lead to horrible driving experiences and not even Esports guys getting close to real laptimes around Silverstone but yes ideally they change it to what David stated!

@atfmarko @GrumpsMcDumps @EA_Vendcera Per previous posts - the problem I was having with random braking was NOT software related - but hardware - specifically the pedals on my Logitech G29 wheel. Specifically there is a piece of hardware on the G29 called a potentiometer. There is one on each of the pedals (accelerator, brake, and clutch). Apparently when they get dirty you can get sudden application of the brake, the accelerator - and in fact it is random.

There is a process to clean them that requires taking apart the pedal base to access the three potentiometers. I followed the directions (from a YouTube video) and this seems to have been the culprit for me.

I have done quite a lot of laps across several tracks and using Iko Rein’s telemetry software I have not seen a recurrence of the brakes randomly coming on as I did before.

  • I'm using Logitech G29, I've tried to turn the assists on and off again, but no effect, the game completely ignores the settings and always try to steer assisting me... The game is literally unplayable this way, not mentioning the unusual force load the game puts on the steering wheel because of this behavior... I turn right, then the game tries to turn my steering wheel to the right even more and more and I have to counter-steering this to the left... in a right turn, I literally have to force the steering wheel to the left to not turn onto the grass or in the wall on the inside of a turn jeez... This literally makes the game unplayable...

I can't imagine, how this problem can still exist since launch after multiple patches.

Anyone have any fresh info about this case? I wonder if EA even knows about this issue or not...
