I have to say I seem to be the only one who actually likes the handling right now and I am most defiantly not a pro by any means.
Firstly, usually when a new f1 game comes out I usually have to drop the difficulty by quite a bit, I usually play between 90-95 difficulty, mostly 90, 95 on tracks where I am very competent like Austria. 90 for Bahrain, I’ve only dropped it to 88 and I am running competitively (for where I should be based on car choice. I’ve been able to settle in quite easily.
I often flutter between trying traction control off completely, (and then get sick of losing the back end constantly) then move to it being on low. So far, I still have it off after a fair few hours of gameplay (admittedly still just on Bahrain as I try out all the game modes (my team, driver career f2 start, and skip to f1 start) and I am doing pretty well with it off. Traction definitely seems to have improved, but there is no way you can be full throttle in 2nd gear, coming out of turn 1-2 is still a challenge; and I’ve had a few snaps trying to get the power down.
I’ve found I’ve been able to be MUCH smoother with steering input, to the stage where I am not shredding through my tyres like I have on just about every other F1 game. (I play on pad, and I’m not the most precise). I havnt felt that the steering is really twitchy, and I’ve had some pretty epic battles in my first races around Bahrain. All clean, no contact, barring me overcooking it speed wise, nothing to do with the handling.
Also the F2 cars are SO much fun to drive now, I never really payed them any attention in previous games, but I am going to really enjoy doing an f2-f1 driver career.
Im already podium pass lvl 11. ’ve completed a full length f2 weekend, and 2 full distance f1 weekends, one in my team (car did handle pretty dog * here, but that’s the car being basic I think) and one in a Haas, all around Bahrain, but I’m having more fun than I ever have at this early stage of an F1 game.
I’ve also done a few laps around the dreaded Jeddah, I’m usually crap round there, yet actually have enjoyed driving round there and can actually put some decent lap times in for the first time ever!
It does sound like I am for sure the odd one out, as everyone is slating the handling model, but I feel more in control than I ever have, so I will be sad when the inevitable patch to ‘fix’ the handling comes on day 1.
