I’m still wondering what the goals/fees are from F1/Liberty driving EA’s target for game sales. Is this still a continued attempt to extend F1/DTS into gaming, ala NFL/FIFA and sell as many as possible to even the most casual fans, or will there be a strong enough focus on the harder core racing fan? Is eSports still a target? I think this is still at play in F1 24 based on the marketing I’ve seen so far with some claimed improvements aimed towards all groups. F1 24 sales/reviews will be an interesting indicator.
As to VR, PCVR is in F1 24 because its copied and pasted from 23 along w Ego and PSVR2 won’t happen as long as the Ego engine is still being used. PC VR strikes me as pretty niche, at least in F1 series overall sales including consoles. But someone at EA/CM thinks PCVR is important enough to bring it to WRC, along w re-engining to Unreal, enough to support 4 brands, 7 total headsets (no extra effort or complexity there right? we’ll see how that goes)
When F1 gets re-engined (probably for 25) so only new gen consoles are supported (and if PC VR comes along - depends on how it goes w WRC I guess) would be the soonest EA/CM might even consider PSVR2, but that would have to get decided in the next 6 months so doesn’t seem likely, unless the penetration of PSVR2 for GT7 the only RACING game (not general games) is deemed significant enough (and whether Sony will decide there is a future for VR under its current latest regime and actually support/promote it). I’d love to see it but not overly optimistic for F1 25 atm
Interestingly CM did add PSVR1 support to Dirt a while back, so maybe they just really hated doing it (or Sony) and said never again
