Help - How do I take that final step racing with traction control OFF?

Quick background, F1 is the only racing I like and watch and just started in 2022, so I'm new to all of the racing world.

F122 - I played the entire year with ABS & TC on.

F123 - I started similarly but halfway through decided to make it work with both off. ABS was quick to learn. TC off took time, but I eventually peaked at a point that's not quite good enough. Basically, if I do a full 100% race, so around 60 laps, I'll spin out accelerating too much out of a slow corner 5 or 6 times a race, around once every 10 laps.

F124 - Started with the same assists above OFF, but I just can't seem to improve. I'm at that same mark where I'll just spin out once every 10 laps or so. On F123, I turned Flashbacks on so I can at least still have fun in career modes.

For F124, after playing a bit, and I thought maybe turning flashbacks off entirely and turning down AI Diff a few points would help as it would force me to drive safer out of slow corners, but I'm still spinning at the same rate

Other than "keep practicing" which is likely the best advice, any tips or help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. I've just been stuck here for too long with no improvement and not sure how to get over the hump.

  • @allemands311 There are a couple of things you can do. I would try changing your throttle saturation and dead zone to begin with but its also critical to consider how quickly you accelerate out of corner as well as any tire wear you nay have

Thanks! I haven't noticed if there's a trend in spinning mostly when on old tires, will try to keep an eye on that.

I'll look into the throttle saturation & throttle dead zone as well.

Throttle linearity may help too but the best advice is yours "keep practicing" 😉

  • @allemands311 from what i've experienced you can only really master no traction control unless you have a decent set of pedals that allow you to control throttle pressure better.
I'm not saying its impossible but thats why better pedals are a thing.
  • @allemands311 also don't feel like you have to turn things off to enjoy the f1 games either, who cares if you run assists in career mode, its your money and time enjoy it.

I don't know exactly what that one means but I'll check it out.

I did turn flashbacks on again, but I've had some much better results so far, I think the throttle dead zone is the biggest benefit, I moved it from 0 to 10.

In the past, I'd rarely have those moments where you feel the spin a little and can catch it, I'd go right into a spin. Now I'm able to catch a few more and avoid disaster, and I feel like those were the spins before

I did 1 race, it was Monza so I'm aware there weren't many chances to spin out of slow corners other than the 1st chicane. But I did 43 laps and only spun once, and I didn't have to flashback, so easier circuit for sure, but still felt like there was progress

I did race 10 laps at Baku with no spins tonight, had to save the race. Started in 10th, currently in 12th but zero flashbacks is the main stat I'm worried about.

    Hi

A few years ago I made a change from some assists to None, just switched them off. It took a while to get used to, very frustrating at times to be honest. Do you have Manual Gears on? If you switch off TC it helps to also select Manual Gears. You can shortshift and chances of spinning are less. Don’t worry about lap times, AI settings and all that stuff. Pick a track that you like and start doing a whole bunch of laps in time trial. Wipe you best time first, otherwise you keep comparing to it, start fresh. Don’t keep restarting when you invalidate a lap, finish the laps. Slowly but surely, I started getting quicker again. It just needs a lot of practise.

Once you get the feeling, pick a number for AI, I think I lowered mine by about 20 at the time compared to assists on. And start doing some short races (no practise and quali) to see where you are at, keep tweaking the AI until you feel comfortable. Then go back Careers, MyTeam, full seasons etc.
If after a while you don’t think it works, go back to what works for you. As one of the other users said, it’s your game, play it the way YOU want!

    enjoy, P
