@ElloGuvnor58 be warned Old man rambling incoming
@ElloGuvnor58 The current handling model. I’m almost certain will ship with the game. As other key aspects of the physics and game will be optimised and tested. For instance if it turns out that it’s a front suspension problem. That will need to redesigned. Which will change how tyres temps and wear throughout race. So they would have to test how tyres perform and adjust them to work across all tracks and conditions. What’s more how things like tests that upgrades in career are not knocked out of balance. Etc etc the list is never ending. David god love him is great but not infallible and he will admit he dropped the ball in 22. But only a few refinements to handling model could be made. And took a few months before they were released in patch.
Unfortunately when the game releases version 1.0 plus day one patch. Believe it or not that is the best game will be. As all its parts.are balanced through testing in conditions controlled by the team. When game launches and people post bugs reports. Once they replicate it they can only fix the specific issue. So for every patch that’s drop will fix known issues. And not other game mechanisms that interact. What tends to happen is more bug fixes that require 15 patch updates or more. Will gradually increase balancing issue and conflcts. It’s main reason patch’s often create more bugs than they fix. And beat the team can do is put out fires when they start. Or as a last resort quietly disabling game mechanics. It’s not just these games. All games that have used the same base code year on year. Have changes made year on year by a different coder year on year resulting in when current coder locates and makes a fix. There will be so much spaghetti code. It’s impossible to know if changes they make cause a conflict else where.
So game is still be worked on including making improvements to handling and will be right up to last possible minute, But when game is released that’s pretty much the base off what we will have for the year. Patches and refinements to handling will come. But don’t expect handling to become great after a patch. Despite what it says in patch notes.
I’d like to think Casey had a clean canvas to design his vision and ideas for handling. Which when finished would effortlessly be added into the game. But the canvas he was given and hadt to use Had 10ish year’s off designs from a previous handling designer. So maybe it would have been better making fewer and smaller changes to a handling designs that majority of us praised praised from 1st F1 23 beta. If it’s not broke. But as we all do . When getting a new important job or similar, We want to show we can knock it out off the park on day one. Problem is when swinging for fences it’s very easy to miss the ball completely. Which I don’t think he did. He hit it just didn’t get to the fence. Given more time it will be all his designs and will make it right next year. As David did after a bad 22 he came back with a banger in 23. Although I first spoke to him when he was working on it. So obviously saw my chance to tell him what he needed to change. So he was fortunate having some random clueless player tell him a (0.1% sim racer who had years off experience designing handling for games🙄😂) that I’m all knowing
