Should be easy. Give them the game. Plug it in. Does it work? Wicked. Let us know then.
It's importantly more complex than that, in that what consumers really want to know (and I think should be entitled to) is what hardware is there guaranteed and ongoing support for. Since experience shows that just because a wheel works at one point doesn't necessarily mean this won't change after an update.
I'm just astounded that during even the beta, there is no selection because there's no asking if you have particular peripherals. Devs know what they are coding for support.
Basically, wheels that emulate controllers should be in. But they need to be a current controller, such as DS4 or XB1 no support for PC gamepads unless they are DirectInput (oddly this even includes X360 controllers, don't ask me on PS, don't have one).
Wheels that are PS3/4 are a bit grey, PS2/3 should be out or legacy drivers for PC are out (see above).
PS3/4 wheels don't have to work with PS5 and should be listed as such (think T500 is like this)
XB wheels have to be X360 compatible minimum (as a controller) or native XB1 (unsure of XBSeries requirements but believe will be similar to the T500 situation, either XB1 or XBSeries and listed as such).
The rest of esoteric compatibility is via the manufacturer. Fanatec and beyond should be PC primarily and console support as guided. If the manufacturer says they support, it's on them.
EA/CM can provide builds of the game prior to release. Who knows if that isn't simply the case and they are waiting for those manufacturers to assert compatibility?
