Wireshark Blocked?
Hi F1 Team, Why do you block usage of WireShark while the game is running? For any simracing users having telemetry issues wireshark is a great way to trace packets and to understand if they are ge...
I understand that that may be the reason that EA thinks they should block a tool like WireShark, but IMO it is a very stupid reason as there are less noticeable ways to get the same effect. As far as I am aware Wireshark is a viewer tool, it cannot reproduce traffic so the "can alter data" claim is bogus.
In terms of the we don't want the packets to get captured, if I wanted to do that without EA knowing I would setup a SPAN port on the switch my computer is connected to and mirror all the traffic there. That would in effect get me all of the packets that I can later decode without EA ever knowing. On the other hand telemetry data is local most of the time which means you can only really use a tool like WireShark to diagnose it.
As for the other option of too much system resources, that's totally bunk also. Developers should not block you from running applications in the background to preserve resources, let me decide when I am using too many resources.
That AI answer while understanding that Wireshark is a network tool, is basically garbage outside of that because it doesn't understand the intricacies of the question being asked, nor the features of the thing it is talking about. Also its only a hypothesis answer based on similar conversations about other games more than likely.
I know I'm late but I do agree that its incredibly dumb. Honestly, like you said there are obvious ways around this and all this restriction does is make life difficult for those using/developing telemetry apps.
