About the new weekend format for Sprint Races

Hi guys,

I am just watching a video right now about F1, and what the FIA (or should I say Liberty Media) have planned for the Sprint Weekends is nothing short of smart, and way better than last year.

Last year, you had FP1 and Qualifying on Friday, FP2 and the Sprint on Saturday, and the main event on Sunday. The thing is, the qualifying on Friday decided the lineup for the Sprint, and the results in the Sprint decided the grid for the main race, which is a very bad decision considering that this benefits only one team, Red Bull in this case.

This year, it's different. We got Practice on Friday, followed by a Qualifying session. On Saturday, there's another Qualifying session along with the Sprint, and the main event is on Sunday, like always.

The difference between those Qualifying sessions is that the session on Friday decides the grid for the Feature Race, and the Qualifying session on Saturday decides the grid for the Sprint. What this means if say Lewis Hamilton takes pole position on Friday, but DNF's in the Sprint, he will still start from the pole position, and if Max Verstappen say is on P15 in Friday's Qualifying but wins the Sprint, he will not start from pole position in the Feature Race. So basically, the entire Saturday is reserved for the Sprint, which is a solid idea, since I despised Sprints ever since they were introduced, but now that this format was revealed, I think I might change my mind about it.

The only question is if EA manages to get this format into F1 23 in time. If it does, then it's really cool. However, I still wouldn't mind an option to turn Sprints off when starting Career Mode.

The only thing we can do is hope for the best and pray that EA listens to the community.

Good day,

Nico
