Hey everyone,
we are still looking into your feedback about the straight line speed of AI drivers, and would like to get some more information from you to analyse it.
Could you please provide us the following details:
- Videos / Clips of sequences where you feel the AI has too much speed on a straight while you maybe use DRS / DRS+ERS / ERS and have no ability to catch the car in front.
- What difficulty level did you use for your race?
- Which assists are you currently using?
That would help us and the game team massively to understand your reports and see how we can tackle that feedback of yours 👍
If you have any questions, please let us know. You can also post links to YouTube videos / upload clips to trusted websites like streamable.com.

- 4 years ago@EA_rephii I can not record but I can explain a very revealing experience of the problem. I test on PC with the joystick at 80 difficulty with all the aids at baku, 2nd corners, on the car in front of me I go from +0.200 to +0.600 in not even a second when exiting the bend, same for the car behind I go from -0.900 to 0.500, depending on the length of the straight line seen that the AI has a crazy acceleration the car behind me will end up next to me, while me with DRS + ERS I barely get back on the car behind in front of +0.600 to 0.400 (in the best case) even if I have a Ferrari and in front of me I have an Aston.
And the worst is when the car in front or behind is my teammate, I feel like I'm not driving the same car as him - 4 years ago
Here is an example of how OP the AI seem to be out of slow corners and onto long straights. Ocon was 0.8 seconds behind at the start of the straight and passed him by the end of it. https://youtu.be/ZJA73JKlmjE?t=350 At around 5:50 in this video

@VemundVemundSeems to me like rubberbanding.. Even ERS and slipstream dont cause such a swing of speed advantage
And yes its not rubberbanding because it keeps going on even when they are past him but what i try to say is its not a physics thing theres genuinely something going wrong
Correction: Might also be for some reason horrendously bad drag values for the MyTeam car, need more esports vids with low downforce setups in normal cars to say more but thats really extreme

Yes, the video of Jarno Opmeer in Miami really demonstrates what we are talking about. The AI is breezing past, not just faster. If they would gain a bit that's one thing, but they really come flying past me even before DRS is even activated.
But it's not like it happens to me every race and every track. Last week at Jeddah I was quite close to the pace of the AI on the straights. Not sure what's going on, but it's really weird. At Bahrain I literally stopped racing after a few attempts as my rear wing level was locked and I just couldn't come close to the AI on the straights, even though I was faster in the twisty bits.
- 4 years ago@VemundVemund I had the exact same experience shown here on Xbox Series X using a pad. It seemed to start happening after I changed the difficulty settings and the AI straight line performance is now like this regardless of which difficulty level I choose. They are crazy fast all the time.

Have not followed Jarno's series, but MyTeam is not the best example, if we do not know is engine or other details of the car. Alpine seems to be better car atleast, but it was only the overall and no details of aero, engine or chassis.
- 4 years ago@gizt7 It's the same problem if you are racing against your teammate in the exact same car as well. So for sure a problem with the AI
- 4 years ago@VemundVemund Well, I have not noticed this in my first 7 races in MyTeam...

Here's what I'm seeing in a Solo Grand Prix. Note the AI are set to a difficulty of 1 😃
- 4 years ago
- AI on 80 difficulty - Multiplayer race with AI, equal cars.
- I'm using no assists and default setup for Spa (whichever preset it auto-selects, which I think is 'higher top speed' preset 4).
- To make a pass under DRS, I needed to use ERS from the exit of Raidillon down the entire straight, while having the tow while the AI didn't. And he still manages to start magically pulling away into a 9th gear at the end of the straight. Please note that I didn't run out of ERS in this clip - turned off ERS at 3%, but he started kicking into overdrive before I turned off ERS.
- 4 years ago@WABBAJ4CK Wtf I've not seen it that bad in an Aston
- 4 years ago
@WABBAJ4CK In this clip it looks like you are only accelerating at ~70% max throttle?
- 4 years ago@ninjaisfast I haven't changed any of the controller settings, but I'll certainly check it.

I restarted my MyTeam career, and put AI on 90. For some reason I can now pretty much match the straight line speeds of AI.
Don't know how that's possible now, but finally I'm having fun playing it.

@EA_rephii I have stop playing the game since I notice the problem, can you tell us when will we get a patch that will solve it?
- 4 years ago@EA_rephii Hi there. No video, but on my team, Bahrain, I had to run 5-7 wings and my team mate still pulled away. Easily. It’s quite depressing as the handling model seems good this year, but not running 5-7 wings

Does ride height have a limiting impact on straight line speed? I’m wondering if the problems are due to a too low or too high ride height?
- Nylink4 years agoSeasoned Veteran
If some of you are feeling adventurous, there is a mod out there that adjusts the straight line speed on race department.
It works, but I needed to up my AI level back to where it was last game, I was running at 80, so I bumped it back up to 90.

This is exactly, why videos are helpful. Thanks for sharing.
There is something wrong with your throttle. It goes only to ~70%. You can see this from the bottom in your HUD (green bar). It should go all the the way to the right. Please check your controller in calibration, there might be something wrong with it.

Not sure, if I get the isuue in this video. AI (Alpha Tauri?) has DRS as well and you basically go side by side. I think the other car in front of you is also too far to give you any slipstream.

@EA_rephii Here is another exapmle, recorded on equal preformance cars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adZi7k1RzkE
I use up about 40% of my ERS the entire straight while the car in front only uses about 15% of ERS.
90 AI and using the standard increased top speed setup.
- 4 years ago@gizt7 I'm 4 tenths behind the car in front, which realistically would give a noticeable advantage but I'm not sure if it translates to the game.
The problem is that I pull about a foot in front, and then the AI suddenly gets a speed boost and pulls back alongside, while I am full throttle and burning ERS. - 4 years ago@Bertje19892 Which settings did you actually change from? This info could be potentially useful in coming up with a workaround.

I don't know mate, Perez has the DRS as well, so I don't think it is fair to expect you to overtake him easily. You are still cathing him slowly as you use more ERS, but I don't think you should be able to overtake. It is still equal performance cars.
Also, if you look Alonso behind you, he is dropping back as he doesn't have DRS. Looks realistic and not overpowered AI to me.

@gizt7 From the testing I did, the isssue seems to be around myteam mode and the myteam car, we did some testing in a discord group where I'm part of and the results where pretty clear:
-In GP mode and career mode, the AI seems fine and balanced, and we never had an issue not explained by either bad setup, user issue or too agressive TC
-However, we had no explanation for slow speed in myteam, and players complaining about it in myteam had no issue with speed in GP and career mode
-Also, fast players who only played gp and career and never had a straight line speed issue, noticed the issue when they tried a Myteam session, all 3 types of start, with the fastest possible engine and upgrades for a myteam start, with a 1 second average pace deficit.
-Myself I noticed the issue, and also noticed that with a midfield Myteam car, I was slower than in a Career Mode Alpha Tauri by about a second a lap and was consistently last or near last in the speed trap with a low wing setup (12 front, 17 rear) and a ferrari engine.
We don't know if something is up with career and gp mode, but we do know that something is up with the myteam car in Myteam mode. My pet Theory is that the Factory engine upgrade may in reality not apply any speed upgrade to the player myteam car, but does it to the team mate and the ai.
