AI gaining Massive Speed on the straights

One thing I've noticed is that on the straights the AI is rapid, is this a glitch (I've heard the ai has something similar to infinite ers or something) or is it as intended? (This was based on the GP mode with the Ferrari car)
So it’s not just me. I ended up running 5-7 wings at Bahrain and they’re still pulling away
