AI needs proper fix

Hi guys,

this is probably the biggest flaw I have seen so far in F1 22.

I recently played Qualifying in Canada, and got a 1:12 something, I was in the top 5 after that lap. And then, I skipped time forward and ended up in 18th, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz beating Vettel's real life Qualifying record from 2019, both of them having a 1:10.0 to be precise.

I expect such performance from AI Level 110, but this is just level 80, so unless the simulation of Qualifying times is horribly broken, I'll just say my verdict is, the AI is heavily OP in Qualifying and I will never take pole position.

Until an AI retraining or simulation fix is forthcoming, I will drop the difficulty. I might be dominating races with an Alfa Romeo then, but I honestly don't care. The problem with the AI exists, I can't let it off, and the fact that the AI doesn't destroy me on several tracks anymore doesn't change the fact that the simulation is broken and needs a fix.

If this is worked out and fixed, I will increase the difficulty again, but for now, I will drop down to 71 maybe.

- Nico

When you go to flying lap for  qualifying progress  ers is already set to  hot lap when you take control off the car in final sector before you begin your hot lap. So it would surprise me if the simulated part off the outlap Has your car at maximum attack.

switching car to lean on in and out laps is also kinder to engine and gearbox.

And then the final way to keep wear down.  Is to select full races calendar.  If you select 16 race season. The game still simulates the 6 races off wear that you skip/kids than adds it during one off your actual races. Not sure how’s it implement.  If it works out as 6 races at 10% wear per race = 60% and then equally shares it out over your 16 race season. Or if it’s a case it adds 10% extra wear to the next race after the one you miss.

say you miss Bahrain and go straight to Jeddah If by the end off that race you’ve also had the simulated wear from Bahrain. Which I think is how it works.

As I’m useless and hate Monaco I race it but just do practice programs the. Select all new parts. Take penalties then Start from last place and being a manchild I keep on the max power and ers into first bend and try and take as many ai cars out with me🙄😂

helping reduce overall wear and getting all new parts.

Talking about Monaco. I'm sure it feel better in th is years car.  Even with the traction issues I was doing miles better than I did last year car.

Not sure if that's the car or the physics translating over a bit better. But had more fun this year.

I'm also have a idea in my head that maybe traction is track related. For example bahrain I have constant traction issues. But at Monaco I was actually surprised I didn't have that much trouble on slow corners. I tried Brazil one of my favourite tracks and am very confident there.again no traction issues even on the slow middle part.

So my head is all over the place in thinking what's wrong.

    BTW cmon Ferrari!!

I noticed in last years game the CE wore at an high rate compared to 2019 and 2020 so I got in the habit of getting reliability upgrades for the CE ASAP in 2021. With just the Minor reliability upgrade for the CE in F1 22 I’m able to get a CE last 1000 laps with 45% wear. My big problem in the reliability area is the gearbox, even with the Minor and Major reliability upgrades I don’t notice any difference. I still hit 60% after 240 laps.

So one short coming, somewhat easily addressable by not skipping sessions and that produces fair racing - fair racing even if you unjustifiably start at the back of the grid - you won't tolerate, but the other one reducing the AI level significantly and resulting in an easy field and buttery easy racing you're ok with? 🙃

As people said, this is not new. Curious as to how you didn't ever spot it before on your previous F1 games.

Not ideal, but just don't skip the quali sessions or fast forward with the AI on track and you get it working alright. It is not only the AI that can break real life world records, you can break them too.

    The Ai are awful

In imola the second chicane I had an AI alongside me I deliberately did not brake to carry impossible speed into corner just to see what would happen, the AI stayed along side me then PASSED me on rails mid corner WHAT! I mean I am literally not braking and cant make the corner and the AI sails through

Its like some form of aggressive speed matching / overtaking rubber banding or something they have on the AI this year

Not to mention when leaving the pits the AI do not suffer from cold tyres what a joke

  • Shame there isn't an ai aggression setting so we don't get the dumb race craft by the ai.

In career I have seen ai struggle straight out of pits. Albon was my case and me in a Aston.

@Dan78loki  I actually love super aggressive ai this year.  I’m not into the whole emersion thing.  I like this game precisely because it’s designed as a simcade and crazy bonkers ai is the one thing about this game I love.  Just wish I could post it to F1 2020 and I’ll have nothing to complain about 😁

AI does seem to have the same glitch were they go too fast when you fast forward in quali or the race gets simulated because of a retirement. In quali if you don't want to spend too much time, do like me. Fast forward till the first AI car is about to start his flying lap, then you live the garage by yourself and do the outlap, flying lap and inlap (never pick return to garage if there is any AI doing a flying lap). After every AI has finished their laps you can fast forward again till you leave again at the end of the session. This works with me and saves some time to.

Same. A bit more time consuming but the best way to do it. In Q2 I also make sure I finish my flying lap before the flag drops because of left to the AI to drive back, it adds quite a bit of tyre wear, so you have to start the race with more wear than needed. This was F1 2021 though...

Its true that AI driving the car back to the pits does simulate higher tyre wear. However its not a problem in Q2 anymore as you get a free choice of tyre in the race
