Brakes on fire!

Hi guys,

I don't know if any of you experienced this already, but I saw this on Reddit recently.

I recently maxed out my car in My Team Career Mode, and coming into Australia, upon braking, the temps of my brakes will shoot up to 1100 degrees within a second, essentially rendering turning while braking impossible.

Not only is this a huge problem, but the main worry is that I play with ABS on because I am trash at trail braking, which apparently is what you're supposed to do with braking upgrades in your car. This makes no sense, if you ask me. If anything, braking upgrades are supposed to decrease braking distance and avoiding overheating, which is not the case in this game, but it used to be up until F1 2020.

It could also be a setup issue like it was for me in F1 2020, but I already tried lowering braking pressure to the lowest possible, with the same outcome. So maybe I need to look for a different setup, or Codemasters need to take a look at it and fix it if possible. I am not gonna learn trail braking on a controller, I don't have the patience and time for that.

If you experienced this before, let me know in a reply, and maybe you guys know how to tackle the problem.

- Nico

A sudden spike in your brakes' temperature does not render "turning while braking impossible". Turning without at least an attempt at trail braking does.

How much "patience and time" you'll need to dedicate to trail braking depends on your ABS setting. But unless you're at least trying to apply proper braking technique, I don't see how anyone could see much merit in your claiming that "Codemasters need to take a look at it and fix it if possible".

@mariohomoh So, what could I possibly do to avoid that? Like, aren't brake upgrades supposed to decrease the amount of brake you need to apply to brake efficiently without overheating them? If yes, then I might try increasing the deadzone on my brake trigger to try it out, but if it doesn't work at all, then I'm screwed.

@LuckyNico92 I think you can "fake trail brake" on a controller by raising your brake saturation.
    Start at 35.
Going into turn brake as normal you should hit 100 faster than normal cause by the higher saturation.
Then just let off brake a little slower allowing the brake saturation to do the work for you.
You'll have to adjust for the different stopping distances which should be quicker and/or shorter.
Why your brakes are so hot idk.

Does it state this in the game or are you guessing? Unless an upgrade is specifically intended to improve cooling then I could easily see that a brake upgrade could just increase the maximum braking pressure/resistance, which would in turn also increase the maximum rate of heating.

@LuckyNico92 stick the stickiest bubble gum you can on the L2/LT trigger.

Seriously though, all this apparent effort you put on writing your long posts and on looking up for shortcuts is completely at odds with your intransigent refusal to at least try to learn trail braking - unless this is just one more of those cases of glib hyperbolic language you so often resort to.

Trail braking is hard to master, but even a modicum attempt at it is better than just smashing the brakes and hope for the ABS to perform a miracle.
These are formula cars, their phenomenal grip comes from their downforce generation, and downforce increases AND decreases with the square of the car's speed. Meaning your grip budget goes from G8 top global economy to backwater village pretty quickly.

The upgrades improve on the brakes by making them more powerful and efficient - more stopping power, thus reducing the time of application.

If you truly do not even try to apply trail braking, this is you handicapping your own performance, not the game. Makes no sense to deflect the blame here.

Now we all know that a maxed out career car is far from balanced in this game. That said, it would just exacerbate the underlying issue of not braking properly.

Just to add, the max brake upgrades in My Team and Career mode actually break the handling of the car. It's well know that the cars get too fast and become really unbalanced when maxed but it's common not to complete the last two brake upgrades.

The logic to Nico's issue is incredible. Every new post surpasses the last in terms of increasing my bewilderment level.

He's so averse to Max that when he gets a MAXed out car, he can't drive.

Just kidding! Couldn't resist the pun 😂
