Can't Use 2nd set of Medium Tyres in a Non-Sprint Race

Product: F1 22
Platform:Steam-PC
Summarize your bug It's impossible to select a 2nd set of medium or hard tyres in a standard, non-sprint race. The game prevents you from choosing them for your starting strategy and you're unable to use them if you need to make an emergency pit stop. The game limits you to your allocated soft sets, 1 med set and 1 hard set, which isn't realistic.
What is your 16 digit Report Code? PKKC-VJVK-PJGA-BMVE
Which area is the bug/glitch in? Driver Career
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Did you have cross-play enabled? Yes
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Run a standard race of any length and in any mode (not just Driver Career) and choose your tyre strategy at the start.
What happens when the bug occurs? You will not be able to choose a 2nd set of medium or hard tyres. You also won't be able to choose them for emergency pitstops.
What do you expect to see? Being able to choose a 2nd set of medium or hard tyres during race strategy and pitstops, like in real life races. I would suggest make the mediums and hards with the least wear in practice available for the race.

I've changed the descriptions in this report to make it more clear and to the point.

    Hey everyone,

Thank you for your ongoing feedback on this issue. We have made an update to tyre allocations with today's 1.15 patch.

A more detailed post about that can be found here: Tyre Allocations in F1® 22 - UPDATE - Answer HQ

We hope this allows for greater strategies with your races!

@gusticlescaukA mass strike is probably off the table, gamers are a fickle bunch. 🙂 But speaking for myself, this annual customer is done with F1 games for at least a few years if the current stewards of this series are going to let issues fester the way they have. There are always mods, at least for things like tyre allocation. It's just a shame that we need to rely on mods for some of these fixes.

So I decided to have another go at racing 50% distance and, just to prove everyone's point, in the very first race of a new Driver Career save, Hamilton and Perez, who collide with each other twice resulting in 2 pit stops each for front wings (lol), are forced to go from Hards to Softs, when I would assume they would've gone onto a *gets out megaphone* SECOND SET OF MEDIUMS. And when it happens again, they go back onto the used set of hards. Not even a second set of softs. The whole thing's borked. There's no choice for me OR the AI, it's screwing them as much as it's screwing me. There is zero strategy. It's just grabbing at whatever tyres are left and bears no resemblance to real, basic F1 strategy.

First incident happened on lap 15, which would've meant 2nd set of Mediums would've been perfect to last them to the end of the race. Second incident on lap 21, meaning 2nd set of Softs. That's what should have happened anyway...

@s00zster I had a very similar experience myself. My one medium set was expired, and I was running on hards when I had to pit early. Choices were either worn mediums, or softs that unnecessarily throw my whole strategy out of whack.

They've completely (and needlessly) neutered the strategy in this year's game. Ridiculous.

Yup no problems picking whatever tyre combo I want for 50% race at Imola.  After doing sprint race on softs.

should add. This is my team career maxed chassis department.

I use softs for race practice program and one set off hards to the other two. Unless it’s qualifying program then I use a set off softs

Due to being able to choose which set off tyres you start the race on.  There isn’t any point  doing full qualifying. So I simply use one set off softs doing one shot. The jeopardy off only having one lap makes it more challenging on my part (ai starting positions only really vary due to penalties)

So if I do choose I could use the tyre strategy in the picture below. But will be choosing soft/med strategy

  • Sprint race weekends are much closer in terms of real tyre strategy, running softs in the sprints is unfortunately, the only way to enable 2 sets of mediums for the main race.

There are a few circuits that 2 stopping on 2 sets of softs with 1 set of mediums is possible, circuits that are relatively light on tyre wear. That’s not many though and really doesn’t help with the rest of the calendar.

EA/ CM: you cannot leave this colossal screw up as it is. This bug is very much, not rectified as you have said in the other tyre allocation post. It’s time to admit and accept that quite simply, you’ve messed up, and it’s time to do a rollback to the 2021 tyre allocations for the 2022 game. This is the easiest solution for you to implement, and THE MOST POPULAR. I have no issue at all having a set of practice mediums swapped with a set of q2 softs.

If you cannot or won’t do this EA/ CM, then you don’t deserve the exclusive rights to the F1 franchise. Let another games company have the rights and actually provide a fully accurate game, not one that you’ve decided yourselves to implement what you feel to be ‘the best balance’ tyre allocations. Players are screaming at you to say it’s definitely not the best balance. Time for you to recognise this and do what we’ve been asking for, FIX IT!
