Crash physics

Not sure what's going on with this but I'm yet to crash with the AI and they have spun off.  Every time I spin and they carry on like nothing has happened. Virtually any sort of connection sends me.

I'm on full damage and one went into me at 197mph for absolutely no reason (which is a regular occurrence) on the Miami straight sending me into the wall and he carried on as normal.  Not even any damage.

F1 2021 seemed quite balanced but 2022 its like racing fast, blind tanks.

Anyone had AI spin off after coming together with them?

  • @martyforster Funny since the patch I’ve found the ai much better behaved towards me. And had a good tussle for a dozen laps being the meat in a max and Lewis sandwich until max blew his car up.

But do know what you mean with Miami straight. I managed to do last to first a few my team careers ago but on last lap Lewis caught me. As it was my first ever last to first race I decided to put Hamilton into the wall but he would not be moved. Ended up locked together all the way down the straight. He crossed the line first but got a 3 second penalty for illegally blocking me at the end off the straight giving me the win.

Any how I’m thinking it’s by design. On certain sections off track the ai can’t be moved off line. Especially down the Miami straight with the walls so close. Mainly To ensure the front ai runners don’t crash into each other in the first few laps and then having the entire grid pile into the back off them. Ai are great at avoiding each other in the corners but on the straights despite plenty off time and space they don’t slow down or move off there line to avoid a wrecked car:
  • @ScarDuck14 Is that since the F2 patch as I haven't downloaded it yet?

I noticed there had been a glitch somehow in my car set up for that one. Loaded my usual Miami car up with 18-24 wings but realised in Parc Ferme it had loaded wings as 40-50 (all other setup correct so not sure how it happened) so I was crazy slow down the straight so instead of overtaking AI just went full belt into me on the line as if I wasn't there.

It is usually mostly on straights but I also have problems on corners when in a train. The car in front is always very slow into turns (then flys off on the exit) which means I need to slow either earlier or harder not to hit them on corner entry but when I do that the car behind doesn't slow (like the car in front and I have) and hits me and it always makes that lock up before spinning me off.

Doing career with Williams at the minute on an average of 80-85 AI and finish each time around 14-16th but on time trial when I put times in to the lap time site it gives me an AI of 93-95. I'm new to using a wheel and pedals (only got for for this release) and my TT set up is a bit more twitchy so not confident to get through a race with it but not sure if the lower AI is affecting the train/cornering issues.

@martyforster Found when in a train. Braking a lot earlier than normal and coasting so keeping enough speed as you roll through the corner to close in on the car infront. So faster through the apex. Trick is nailing the throttle coming out off the corner in order to keep up with the ai
  • @ScarDuck14 This is pretty much what i do but that initial breaking sends the car behind into me, normally as they try to dive bomb though from way behind.

My throttle on exit could be better. Think i probably feather a little too much if anything (I use traction control fully off) so my exit is a little slow though whilst I didn't think I trail brake I had a look at racenet today and I seem to be naturally doing it without realising (obviously this is taken from TT without AI but it's the way I drive normally.

There just feels like a difference in corner entry speed between the car in front and the car behind so I keep getting sandwiched at corner entry.

@martyforster Think how the car chasing behaves is by design. I only play myteam and I like to try out every starting variation of engine etc then I’ll race a season then restart. Unless a patch drops and I’ll delete my game save update and restart Especially in the first few months after launch. Whilst waiting for the major bugs to get fixed.

And Whilst doing this I’ll mess around with all the game settings and difficulty’s.

And so occasionally my very slow stock my team car will be infront off faster ai cars on track: and as I’m a gamer and not a sim racer. Ill robustly defend my position: and so many times the ai have been so much faster when chasing me. and eventually they pass. But as soon as they do. I find they slow down and again like you having to avoid running into the back off them in corners
  • @ScarDuck14 Yes, I've found that too. I've started to quite like the grip and gameplay lately overall but the AI is frustrating. I've still not yet tried the new update but if I get a chance tomorrow I will.

@martyforster only raced Bahrain since update and ai seemed better through and out off the corners. Still get destroyed out off turn ten. But first race in myteam career and until I shed some weight car turns like a battleship
  • @ScarDuck14 Hoping to get some time to try it tonight and Barcelona is next up so might beba good chance to see if it feels any different especially in the last section.

So @ScarDuck14 I did Barcelona last night and dive bombing from AI or those train sandwiches.  AI still very slow in to turns and fast out but car behind not going in to me and spinning me off.

However, I run really low wings for Barcelona so it may be a case the AI just can't catch me enough to hit me by the end of the straights so I'll keep an eye on it over the next few races and see.

@martyforster I did Australia earlier and must admit flashback got a workout going into corners at the end off drs zones. In a new my team car and by the time my drs starts working the ai we’re on their brakes and woops:
