@MeanmachineP7having "only brake assists on with everything off" and being able to "never have to lift" (what I assume is the throttle) doesn't make much sense, mate. Anyway, saying that turning on ABS or TC means that a player can take a corner with 100% braking followed by 100% throttle and still be faster is an exaggeration that does not help this debate at all. It is only faster if they're a bad player and the alternative would be crashing or going off track.
As Meza said, current credible testing shows that all assists slow you down significantly except for a good player with ABS - just doesn't slow you down "enough". This could be rebalanced by making ABS engaging much earlier so that players aren't able to keep their performance just at the limit of grip as easily, or make it so that engaging ABS relieves even more braking pressure thus lengthening stopping distances and making braking less effective.
Having ABS or TC assists on do not and should not mean an automatic time penalty in any game, simracer or arcade. For said assists to engage, the driver must exceed the car's capabilities for braking and for acceleration in a given moment. It can still be rebalanced to make these activation periods even more punishing, but that is far far away from either (1 ) being able to slam down whichever pedal during the lap and ( 2) having an automatic time penalty or the like.
With F1 22 having more data points for tyre load vs grip as David Greco said, this rebalancing (if indeed needed) could be easily attainable by making the assist engage earlier in the grip curve.
Again, that TC holds you down but cutting too much power on wide open throttle out of corners has already been demonstrated. With ABS, it seems to still be up in the air but seems to still hurt your lap times, just not enough and as such could use some rebalancing. But we really should move over this "players slam down and be faster" unrealistic argument.
Those entries tagged with TC and ABS enabled are most likely better players that got good laps without ever engaging or simply not engaging those assists enough, just that.
