Does Fuel Efficiency even work?

Hi guys,

I need to touch on something very important, which might turn out to be game-breaking.

I recently played the Spanish GP 2023, and my car had two fuel efficiency upgrades at that time - one minor and one major.

Since taking this low of a fuel load (less than 50kg to be specific) seemed too good to be true, I urged on the side of caution and took 1.5 laps surplus with me. However, and here's the huge HOWEVER, come the end of the race, I almost burned through all the surplus I had with me. And there's no way to save fuel unless you save fuel via Lift and Coast, which, if your car isn't dominant, wastes a lot of time, or if a Safety Car pops up, which also has a low chance of happening unless someone crashes.

And guess what - this dilemma happens with most of the tracks, in which it looks like I can take way less fuel with me, but in the end, you would run out because you can't possibly even out the minus until the race ends.

So, there's one of two options: Either EA totally screwed up the fuel programming and the fuel efficiency upgrades don't work correctly, or I'm awful at saving fuel, which I doubt, because I know how to do Lift and Coast without wasting too much time.

I have no idea about it, so state me your experience in the replies.
