@DavidG53No, also in GP mode the AI is too fast (at least for difficulties lower than 100, above those it is perfectly fine to have AI behaving as it does now). Much less than in career, sure, especially with personnel upgrades etc. but there are still underlying issues present even in GP mode. You need to be very good at the game to keep straight line speed with AI using same setup, and people using below 100 difficulties will never be able to do so (they can by overall pace, but not in straight line speed).
Btw one of the most detrimental issues on this matter of AI is that decreasing difficulty alters AI acceleration speed out of corners much much less than it does for corner entry. If choice of difficulty actually altered the speed the AI has on corner exit and straight line speed in similar fashion as it does for corner entry then there would be no issues as you just had to lower AI skill till you find the perfect pace to suit yourself. But as it is now it's simply impossible to find a good compromise at lower difficulties because there's so much disparity between the two behaviors.

No, you don't have the increase difficulty (elsewhere you will not be able to keep up with the AI), it is just that decreasing difficulty doesn't change much for AI concerning corner exit and straight line speed, differently from corner entry. Hence the more you decrease AI skill and the more you experience a sort of rubber banding where AI is slow on corner entry but fast on exit and straight line speed. With higher difficulties the pace is instead more smooth as the AI is fast everywhere (with still some difference in slow corners, but much less than otherwise).
However patch 1.07 surely has increased the ability the user has to keep up with the AI on corner exit, hence the gap is lower than before.
