@HempyjrThey didn't miss anything. It was announced that this was delayed all the way back at the start of May as the team they'd partnered with to deliver crossplay were based in Ukraine. Is it that hard to do your research before commenting...

To be fair, whilst nobody should have expected crossplay between PlayStation, XBOX and PC at launch, I don't think there was any warning at all that PC players on Steam and Origin wouldn't have been able to race each other?
- 4 years ago@Ultrasonic_77 Well they only spoke of cross gen multiplayer between the different generation of consoles. This lead me to believe that pc players would only be able to play together regardless of platform when crossplay releases.
I guess not everybody read into it that way!- mariohomoh4 years agoHero (Retired)@TheOGReeceTTV Not everybody, indeed.
Usually crossplay refers to players with different hardware (i.e. consoles and PC) being able to share features together. PC is a platform in that sense, same hardware and OS family. Steam and Origin and Epic are storefronts, not platforms in that sense.- Aeghnor4 years agoNew Scout@mariohomoh And that is the main problem here. Codemasters/EA trying to shoehorn cross-play definition into cross-storefront (new word?) play. No idea why that is the case but it most certainly shouldn't be one as it's just anti-costumer.
So we had lack of communication and lack of common sense displayed here, without any clear explanation or reasoning for current situation.

I guess not everybody read into it that way!I think you're probably in a vary small minority with that interpretation to be honest. The reason being the cross-gen element is just things staying exactly the same as F1 2021, where all PC players can also play together in 21 but not 22. Ultimately the number of people posting in this thread and others highlights that this certainly wasn't expected pre-launch. By contrast I don't recall anyone posting to say they were surprised cross-platform play wasn't in the game at launch.

Great observation. The lack of crossplay at launch was reasonably well communicated and I do remember a handful of reviews picking it up. This forest fire still happening just goes to show how detached from the industry this interpretation is – that interoperability between glorified storefronts fits in the "crossplay" definition.
