Usually crossplay refers to players with different hardware (i.e. consoles and PC) being able to share features together. PC is a platform in that sense, same hardware and OS family. Steam and Origin and Epic are storefronts, not platforms in that sense.

@mariohomoh And that is the main problem here. Codemasters/EA trying to shoehorn cross-play definition into cross-storefront (new word?) play. No idea why that is the case but it most certainly shouldn't be one as it's just anti-costumer.
So we had lack of communication and lack of common sense displayed here, without any clear explanation or reasoning for current situation.
