I'm pretty sure you misinterpreted something you read there. I've certainly never seen anything from EA/Codemasters that said this.
Lee Mather said in an interview that, owing to the fact that the team doing Crossplay were based in Ukraine, that the feature was on hold indefinitely. This was back in May, and is the closest I could find to anyone actually involved directly with the project saying anything remotely concrete about major delays. I think the bigger issue here is not necessarily the lack of cross platform interaction between PC and consoles, but rather the bafflingly idiotic lack of crossplay between Steam and Origin players on the SAME PLATFORM. Frankly, I think someone at EA was high when they made that game design choice.
Well even with crossplay Origin and Steam will never be able to league together. Kinda shame for same hardware.

Surely they will by using social lobbies, which is how the majority of leagues operate I believe?

This is what I've been trying to ascertain. Crossplay between Steam/XB/PS and Origin/XB/PS but still no Steam/Origin?
Yes, Leagues use Social Play Custom Lobbies because Leagues has never worked in a way that allows Leagues to operate with reserves.

The footage I saw of yesterday's beta just had a single symbol to denote PC players. I'd therefore taken this to be players on both Steam and Origin?
Let's put this the other way - have you seen anything to suggest that Steam and Origin players can't play together via the new crossplay functionality? We'd previously been told here that it would be possible.

Are your sure? I was watching a stream, and there were two different logos displayed other than PS. One user confirmed the logo that looked like a PC with controller was actually xbox & PlayStation didnt want to show xbox logo on their platform. The other PC looking logo was somebody on steam. But nobody from origin in that lobby. Could be just that less players on origin.

This footage form Alex Gillon does show what looks like a Steam-specific logo though, along with a 4th logo that says EA - might this last one be Origin? Or maybe EA Play, although that's available on all platforms.

There are very definitely 4 icons. PS, XBOX, Steam, and EA (meaning Origin) so it looks like it's complete, functioning crossplay between all of us.

Thanks. And thanks for watching Gillon, I can't.

I am having this same problem.
There is no function to search or add anyone in a different platform...
Is it possible to play Coop Career with 1 Steam user and 1 EA play?
