There's a wider issue at play here in that the mail system isn't actually mail.
It's a way of installing updates, like when CM offer something for free as an apology (for the dumpster fire) that if you are inclined to raise your eyebrows and shirk it off with a "Meh", then the email doesn't delete itself when you click delete or ignore it.
Can only assume this is for the people who delete all mail then cry because they didn't read it first
OR
Those that *never* even *open* mail in mailboxes, no matter how flashy the icon nor the hugeness of the "unread number" gets.
I think this wilful behaviour is a subversive attempt to "brake teh interwebs" or at least is demanding of inclusion in degree-level study topics. Dissertations in crayons only, please.

Okay dokey. When starting game in PS5. If it asks if you want to go to mail press ❌. Don’t… Press ⭕️ instead. Then go to mail using the ingame menu.
But you may still have to delete your save game file and restart if you really want to see the mail
