ISSUE:

Prior to installing F1 22 in Origin, ALL drivers were updated to latest versions; Including system drivers, GFX drivers and hardware drivers for driving equipment.
Installation of F1 22 in Origin was normal and installed correctly and updated without any issues.

Upon launch of the game (as with the same i did with all previous Codemasters F1 titles), i setup up the game to my preference; graphics, sound, assists etc - As usual to all previous titles. I then ran benchmark and all was working as it should (FPS was completely stable @60fps as it should be with VSYNC).

I have the game running at 1920x1080 @60fps VSYNC locked. The reason is due to my monitor limitation (even though i have a 40" monitor). I have all my other simulation/games running at this too and have had no issues whatsoever; including F1 2021, iRacing, ACC, Assetto Corsa, rFactor2...amongst others.

I then restarted the game to make sure everything was setup correctly including a system restart as i always do when setting up ANY game/simulation.

I then switched on my Fanatec CSL DD; no issues and everything up to date (drivers). I started F1 22 and proceeded into setting up the wheelbase and controls, as i did with F1 2021 and it's predecessors.
I immediately saw upon going into the controls menu that all the 'Preset' options all stated - Required: GT DD Pro...this i found immediately strange as F1 2021 picked my CSL DD up as using a CSL DD (not GT DD Pro)???. I then proceeded to setup my CSL DD with using the 'duplicate' option from the option for the McLaren GT3 V2. All the controls appeared to be working as they should...until i then tried to use my equipment in game within TT (time trial).

As with many other users have reported, i began having issues with lag spikes, FPS drops, freezes, sound 'chopping' etc - What i found even more concerning was when the FFB had a mind of it's own and began to suddenly turn the wheel without any input from myself; to the point where it 'jarred' my left thumb quite harshly!!!...i then stopped the time trial and as going back to the main menu, the FPS issues, lagging, sound chopping were still present.

So, after stopping the game and checking my drivers and equipment on other titles again (F1 2021 specifically), no issues were present and both the hardware and games ran without issues.

I then started the game (F1 22) once again to see if any issues were still present, which they were. Interestingly, whilst in time trial i unplugged my Clubsport V3 pedals from the USB cable to the PC and although the FPS and game in general ran 'normally' (using still the wheel to turn etc), i still experienced sound issues.

After my conclusions and reading the endless posts/threads from other users with the same equipment, it is abundantly clear that the issue lies within the configurations/coding for the Fanatec hardware. (I mentioned previously about the game recognizing my wheel as a GT DD Pro???).

Essentially, i have a game that i can't play in it's current state and quite frankly, a game no less which has these issues upon release is just unacceptable!.

These issues need to be fixed IMMEDIATELY!

Thanks for your time.

  • @PaWanh40Oh...by the way

For those stating claims about connecting pedals to just the wheelbase and not through USB...

Specifically with the Fanatec CSL DD:
There are 2 cables that attach to the wheelbase; a serial (phone like) cable and the USB cable.

If i have just the serial cable attached to the base without the USB to the PC, there is no input whatsoever; meaning no input detected within the Fanatec software nor on the PC.

So, it is therefore essential to have the Fanatec Clubsport V3 pedals attached with both cables; the serial cable from the pedal base to the wheelbase, and additionally the USB from the pedal base to the PC.

It is possible to disconnect the serial cable from the wheelbase and just have the the USB connected from the pedals to the PC - the serial cable is there specifically for the Fanatec software; for fine adjustments etc.

Regardless of whichever way the pedals are plugged in, has no bearing on the issues consistently plaguing within the game.

The issue is game related...not hardware.

Why...? - Because both wheelbase, rim and pedals work flawlessly within F1 2021.

  • First off, please don’t plug in both cables. You could potential fry the board in your pedals:

    look at page 11

Second, take a look at my post:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/FANATEC-DD1-Clubsport-3-pedal-fix/m-p/11606413#M3020

as your drivers may be up to date with non-beta driver release. The beta is what fixed it. Make sure your pedals are plugged into the base with the rj11 telephone looking cable. Make sure it is in the right port. Do not have any other fanatec peripherals plugged into the pc via usb cables other than the base.

    UPDATE:

I have just visited your link to your post with the reference to the latest beta-driver (442 I think)

They have removed the link for the download. It explains why in the post; I'd suggest to read the post.

Should I try the previous 440 version...?

Firstly, may I thank you for your response at this time...

Having a new game and unable to play it for said reasons isn't a pleasant experience ☹️.

To begin with, I have to say a huge thank you for the information about the Clubsport V3 Pedals (the cables specifically)...

I had no idea; I have the manual but obviously didn't examine it thoroughly!.

I honestly believed both cables were required...now I know about it I will get onto it!  Thanks 😉.

I will also download the driver (from your link).

Do I have to uninstall the software first or just install the newest beta driver as is...?

I shall not be able to give an update until tomorrow sometime as I am busy tonight - rest assured I'll be straight at it in the morning.

Once I have done your suggestions, regardless of outcome I will obviously update you and keep you posted 😉.

    If it resolves it...well...

We'll have to discuss how I can provide my thanks!

    Talk soon matey!

    @Jooishjedi Good morning friend!,

    Well...
Firstly, it is rather early but i have to be up for the days activities, but i thought i'd share my results as promised.

The suggestions you made have appeared to have solved the issues i was having 😉.

I read the manual last night and immediately had to re-route and disassemble parts of my rig to sort the cables as you and the manual mentioned.
I think i've got away (dare i say it) with the RJ12 cable; I'd plugged it in the 'Handbrake' port strangely, which obviously wasn't the right port to begin with (which could also explain why i haven't done any damage to the pedal mainboard)...anyway, i placed the cables in the correct port/s and reassembled the rig.

So, i uninstalled the 439 drivers and did a restart and cleanup.
I then installed the 440 Driver version - I did this as i mentioned last night to you, the latest beta driver was removed to prevent any issues for users; i assume they (Fanatec) will just release 443 soon with the corrected issues.

Anyway, i installed the 440 driver, made sure about the correct cables i the right places once again (NO USB from pedals specifically), and then re-calibrated my settings and wheel settings in the game.

With your advice and setting things up correctly, F1 22 is now functioning as it should be! YAY!

I did some testing in time trial and the wheel/pedals are performing just as they were in F1 2021...i am so happy i can't begin to tell you...a huge sigh of relief PHEWWW!.

I want to just say a huge HUGE thank you for your assistance and advice, if it wasn't for your help i definitely would've struggled more...thanks a million!.
  • @PaWanh40 i had an issue similar but only online. i experienced a lot of audio chopping and fps drops, with the whee having a mind of its own, this would be instantly fixed when i move out of multiplayer and into gp or tt
  • I have just recently ran into almost this exact issues within the last week on my Xbox one. Can’t play at all.
