With forced VRR if 22 is like 2021 you will get better picture quality. As is looks identical I’m assuming it will.
And you can turn forced vrr on and off in game and I find the difference is very noticeable.

I still don't think the difference you experienced was due to VRR I'm afraid. The point of VRR is to hide issues with unstable frame rate, not to improve image quality. I think there was an associated change in the image processing on your TV that is happening but has nothing to do with VRR.
If a game wanted to make use of VRR to improve (static) image quality it could do so by increasing resolution/draw distances etc in a way that would have previously been an issue as it made the frame rate unstable but the issue that far from everyone has a VRR capable display. Possibly all 120 Hz displays do though?

BTW I assume you can see a noticeable difference between Performance and Quality mode in-game but, where else can you see that you are going at 120 fps?
In the settings of the PS5 there is a panel dedicated to the screen but I assume that there is still seen in 60 hz?
Thank you to everyone posting in this topic 🙂

If you're asking how you can be certain it's running at 120 Hz, on at least LG TVs you can get them to show you the current frame rate.

As we've discussed before - it means by smoothing frame rate instabilities.
I'm only posting this as I fear you're likely to make others expect to see improvements that won't be there.
