F1 22 is a good game

Well, there are many people complaining in this forum and of course many of the comments are true and also deserved. Most of the newly introduced features in this installment could be easily replaced by features which would really contribute to the quality of the game and to the joy of F1 Fans. But I think there should also be room for encouragement, but still fanboy-free-zone.

I have played F1 22 for almost 15 hours now (within less than two days). It is a good game and I will play it for many upcoming hours and I am really looking forward, what you add to the game. I like the handling, I like the cars, I like the races and also the new EA music.

There is potential to let it be a very good game, I hope that time will tell us, that the potential was seized. I was sceptic preordering, but there are no regrets from my side. Well done codies, keep it up.

  • I’m a CM fanboy: Have been since they came out with TOCA  some 30ish years back:

Qnd there is a great game here despite the expected  release bugs and issues that come with all new games because we let them,  However every year and new f1 title has the makings off a great game and every year it always falls short.

my theory is they launch a unfinished game.  Then spend months having to fix the bugs with patch after patch that eventually knock the game out off balance  and as days turn into weeks and then months their enthusiasm and  ideas off adding  real improvements to the game fade and die.

There’s one post from the developer in the q&a thread I find telling.  And that’s when Meza ask him what he’d like to put in the game.:.. and he didn’t just say one or two things.   He listed loads off stuff that would make the f1 series awesome.  And you can tell he’s wanted to put them in the game for years.   And most off what he listed didn’t seem too difficult  if he was given the budget and support

@ScarDuck14 Stop it im blushing😅 I think there are plenty of people with good ideas, problem is what amount of development time is allowed to be spend and what features are allowed by FOM, dont forget a major point of criticism youtubers have for Supercars is that you cant race them which is down to FOM and likely other things the same ☹️
  • That might be the reason yes, good point.I just hope they will be able to bring some of their ideas or also things the community would like to have into this and upcoming products.

Btw, with fanboy I ment people telling others that bad features are actually good and defend their star at all costs. Else it is a good thing, being linked emotionally to something. I also played the TOCA-series and other Codie games back in the 90ies and I really enjoyed them 🙂

@Radarkasten  It’s all good I know what you ment.  I’m the exception to the rule.  I become a fanboy well before  it  become so pathetically toxic

  • Well they had a good base game going in F12021 and ripped features out of it, completely....
Been a long time F1-Codies supporter, stuck through many bugs & releases that were either great or sub-par.
But this is it for me at least. It pains me.

     0. Yes, I like the EA-music part. Well done licensing tracks, that's indeed a good addition. The base game works like F12021 (if it doesn't crash at least) and handles fine. No problem with the formula cars indeed.

But at the moment, and I am a codies fanboy with a lot of hours  - over 200+ on f1 2019/2020/2021 and over 150+ on f1 2012/2013/2015/2016/2017/2018... So yeah, I liked the series and put up with a lot of CODIES bugs, that were resolved quite quickly after launch mostly.
But, again, at this very moment, let's be honest & real...

     1. It's full of bugs, crashes constantly, and it's not even on a different engine/platform.

     (2. Career did not let you choose to start in F2 anymore, why that disappeard, I have no clue. For some players it seems to work, for others like me not.)
=> seems to be a glitch on my part, as others report it does work, so don't take this one

     3. Claire, our interviewer, got axed too. While I agree she did too much of the same questions, it was a good base ot build upon. Sadly, however, this now is completely gone! Gone is the paddock atmosphere, the immersion of having to do interviews and stuff, and the pit lane areas. Isn't that the f1 life, no for EA it isn't it seems...

     4. The F1-life doesn't add any any value whatsoever to this game, other than luring in players to buy stuff. But it is all useless in game content. This devalues the VIP & seasonal rewards, where you used to be able to get liveries, gloves etc - this now includes furniture and stuff... This is not the SIMS for crying out loud.
F1 life is being in the paddock, being interviewed, sitting in briefings/meetings and in hotels a lot. Some have a tiny appartment in Monaco, or live nearby the factory. This is not the life of an f1-driver 🙂... Look I get the pirelli hotlap-idea, that's good... but see point 5

     5. If I want to drive supercars, I'll do that in another game. Why not introduce and invest in F3 or another feeder series. Because your handling model for these supercars... Well, it sucks! That coming from the studio that once delivered games like TOCA. These supercars drive nothing like a realistic modelling, and are way too complex too handle lol... Or bring back the classic cars. The model would be able to deal with it much better, and doing "demos" with those cars is part of the life as well sometimes, of an f2 / f1 driver. So that I would get.
If I want to race these "supercars", I'll gladly turn to other series that replicate it better, or if I want arcade there's forza. This is a rushed implementation and the physics don't hold up. As I said, this is not implemented well enough.

    6. I have no idea why content you received keeps disappearing (eg items from the store), or awarded via the vip tiers or pre-order content & loyalty content. This is a known issue on the EA forums (ref: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/F1-22-Champions-Edition-DLC-Content-not-on-game/td-p/11591401/highlight/false/page/2). Their response: "can't say whe it will be fixed". LOL.

     7. EA Support, or lack thereof. I mean, get real community manager. We're doing all kinds of magic things to solve it. Read your bug reports yourself. No other games I play (eg F1 2021 from CODEMASTERS) has this issue with the same gear & setup.

     8. It all feels very rushed & cashgrab. I had the same feels when Dragon Age & Mass Effect got taken over by EA, and that studio had to work on a game that failed completely 😉... Yeah. EA should let the development team do what it does best, and listen to the community.

    Refunded this thing.

The reason I ask for refound was the low grip of the cars, it’s unplayable

  • @LeRenard242 Exactly my feelings. Instead of this useless crap like F1 Life or stupid supercars they should have put resources into career and multiplayer. How many years is career mode broken, how many years has multiplayer the same problems. Nothing of the real problems are fixed since forever. Instead we get more usless crap in the hope we are dumb enough to spend more money.

This has to be the worst F1 release from the franchise.  I have all prior F1 releases on PC (Steam).  What a let down.  Something is not right here with this game.  The optimization is really off, even when you do the BenchMark the FPS doesn't match of what you are seeing on screen.  It shows in my case, 120 FPS but it looks like it is chugging at 20-30!...Also, the graphics doesn't look any better than F12021!  Actually it might be worse!  "F1 Life" is useless, worst than the Story Mode they had in 2021 and that was awful and not needed.  Why EA?...Why?...what a waste!

Only played for an hour and change and now requested a refund from Steam..First time I've ever done that for a Codie F1 game.  Will re-buy again at the end of the year when the bug and patches are all in at a bargain bin price if at all!  You can tell EA had it's grubby hand all over this one in this year's version.  Last year was just the start, now they are all in....Another Sports game going to the toilet under EA Sports..So Sad...SMH

  • FYI, steam refunded my game, even though I was 11hrs in, I documented everything that was going wrong. Because at this point I can't play this game at all.
Nor is it the game I want to support.
From a die hard codemasters fan, sad but ey. We've got to draw lines somewhere. How bad I feel about this, it's the best thing to do I guess, because this game didn't give me joy, but headaches and the focus is totally not on the racing (e.g. f1 life, super cars and all that crap - NO ONE ASKED FOR THIS).
