F1 24 can only join league as a follower

Hi,

My friend has set a league in F1 24 and I can only join as a follower, and cannot participate in the season. 

I have tried to join as an Xbox user and using the EA app option but have the same result. 

I have left the league and rejoined and still had no luck. 

Can you suggest a fix?
