Same issue here, and I am surprised that only a few people complain about this becase for me this is a huge bug and it ruins the game. If people are bothered that car damage is affecting handling, then they can simply switch off damage, but if I put car damage on realistic, I expext it to be realistic.
I agree with the sentiment of this thread, but here's how I would personally like to see the wing damage balanced:
- If you completely lose your front wing (it has changed to a red colour in the damage panel), you should not be able to race well at all, should lose multiple seconds per lap (similar to if you were on a wet tire compound in the dry) and have no option but to pit in most circumstances.
- If your front wing takes significant damage (either the left or the right side has turned dark orange, you should lose significant lap time (~1.0-2.0 seconds per lap), but the car should still be drivable for the most part.
- However, if you take minor amounts of damage (lost a single endplate, or have light green/yellow damage) this should have very little impact on the car (no more than ~0.25-0.5 seconds per lap at MOST). It should not make sense to pit for a new wing to fix this sort of damage unless you are in / close to a pit window anyway. Obviously if you accumulate multiple hits of this magnitude, I would expect it to turn into a big problem (front wing turns orange).
I agree that wing damage doesn't always feel significant enough right now in F1 22 when taking large amounts of damage, but I certainly prefer this model to the F1 2021 model, which I hated, where you were severely punished if you took even a scratch of damage. Especially with the aggressive AI model in F1 22. That sort of damage model here would ruin the game.
