Grid Starting Position

Starting position is wrong.

I love the addition of us being able to angle our cars and put ourselves in our own grid slots. But all the videos I have seen seem to have the car in the wrong spot when they get it purple. As we all know drivers line their front tyre up with the yellow line in their grid box, which is why its extended out to the side so the driver can see it over the tyres. You have to have your front tyre touching the yellow line or behind it. But when you get it purple in game you are still MILES off the yellow line, will this be tweaked for launch?

Yes, the yellow line seems to be positioned a bit differently from real life.

That said, they're for reference only and what part of the car ends up lining up with it depends on the car you're driving, as they all have different wheelbases (front axle - rear axle) and different distances between the front axle and the nose. It is all in millimeters, but they pile up.

The yellow line is often referred to as Sighting Line or something to that extent. The only thing that really matters is the car being fully boxed in the white lines.

I wish they could mimic the real life distance to the grid white lines too, but (1 ) as long as the grid positioning boxes up with the white lines correctly and ( 2) the yellow line is consistently placed in the game, I'm ok with it.  They'd still be functioning as a good reference for stopping the car.

Yeah I get where you're coming from but look at the image above, it's not as if it's a few inches away, the front right tyre is MILES away from the yellow line, and that's a purple one as well.

From playing myself, its in the ideal spot. Video is deceiving, one to watch when playing.

  • From this video is clear that the purple indicator is behind the yellow line, and he gets red while staying behind it. This clearly needs to be fixed specially if the AI positions ahead the yellow line, like IRL . https://youtu.be/XcQtZq8iA_g?t=173

I forget where I've posted about exactly this before but it still looks wrong to me.

I'll stand down for now, but I'll almost certainly be raising it again post launch, look at the pictures attached side by side, its MILES off, I live closer. Needs adjusting for sure.

I think the line is correctly placed in relation to the grid box but:

In reality, drivers place their tyres on the orange line, which ensures that their tyres are inside the starting box. However, their front wing may not be.

From what I can see in the game, the player (but not the AI!!) must have their front wing inside the starting box as well. This means that the yellow line doesn't work, because its placed like in reality.
