Hello, For last two months I wasn´t playing F1 22 a lot. Today I really wanted to do some racing and I´m again dissapointed. I spent 2 hours trying to play multiplayer. I was getting errors while t...
@Meza994 You’ll know if they do. When the start off every one off my posts says “Just want to give big shouts out or EA and Codemasters. and thank them for this opportunity” 😂
@Ultrasonic_77 If the big Youtubers and Esports guys would also make such videos then FOM would start to think about changing things.. But of course they wont kill of their sacred cash cow..

This is a good point. The amount of marketing these content creators and eSport drivers save EA etc is maybe another reason why there's not much change. Collectively YT content creators and drivers would have large subscriber bases, even if they overlapped, that's a huge base that the game reaches out to. If they all criticised the game collectively, EA would take notice. Limitless has been blackballed for certain reasons so he has no filter. For all he moans repeatedly at least he tells the truth. If the other creators followed suit there'd be change. Its difficult to do because it is their livelihood but we're starting to see some of the major creators be truthful about the state of the game. A little too late though...
I'm with @TotosHeadphones here. I really don't think FOM would put pressure on EA and Codies for a better game, turn it into a love project or something to that extent. As long as it the sales and revenue are maintained at a satisfactory level.
And I wouldn't be so inclined to call their licensing deal with Codies a "sacred cash cow". This is not FIFA. Like, for real.
Though it's been reported to gross FIFA around $150M annually, we don't have exact figures. According to FIFA annual reports (here) though, their revenue from licensing rights in more, let's say, less grandiose years aka non-Wold Cup years have been around 21% up to 60% of their total revenue.
Now with the Formula One Group things are even more opaque as I could only find this from their operating results in their 2022 Annual Report (here):
Given how broader of a category "other revenue" is opposed to "licensing rights" as per the FIFA reports, yeah...
Only the increase in 2021 revenue is partially attributed to their games licensing agreements:
Other Formula 1 revenue increased $180 million and $170 million during the years ended December 31, 2022 and 2021, respectively, as compared to the corresponding periods in the prior year. The 2022 increase was primarily due to the ability to undertake a greater scope of activities when compared to 2021 due to the reduced impact of COVID-19. The Formula One Paddock Club operated at 19 Events in 2022 compared to only 11 Events during 2021, with increased attendance at 2022 Events. In addition, freight revenue increased in 2022 as compared to 2021 due to the increased number of Events outside of Europe and the impact of freight cost inflation on billing rates. The 2021 increase was driven by hospitality revenue generated from the sale of tickets to the Formula One Paddock Club, which only operated at one Event in 2020 due to COVID-19 related restrictions, higher licensing revenue from growth in gaming royalties and new contracts and higher freight and travel income from five more Events as well as more Events outside of Europe.
@ScarDuck14🤣 For those that didn't catch the joke, I failed to mention that the values are in millions. I didn't bother adding the the zeroes in because it is just the percentages that matter for this exercise - i.e. speculating on how much FOM relies on their licensing deal with Codies.
@mariohomoh I was referring to the Youtubers with the sacred cash cow.. Did think it was pretty clear, many of them make their money with the F1 game, Opmeer etc. would lose a lot if they wouldnt be supported by EA
@Meza994Must say I’ve been sleeping every day for last few weeks. Can’t remember last time that happened. Although 3-4 hours broken sleep a night isn’t ideal least it’s stops my brain from going bonkers mental 👍
@Meza994 My bad 🤷♂️ It's because it went from "Youtubers making..." to "FOM changing..." to just end with a "they/their".
Thought people were under the impression that F1 licensing deal with Codies was a big of a revenue source as FIFA's and would be inclined to change things around if videogame personalities were to throw stronger jabs and more frequently at the franchise.
Back on track, as long as these games keep on hitting their metrics with the general player base and the eSports scene can keep up at least the facade of a working, functional championship, I don't think youtubers on expensive rigs complaining about the state of online months after release would do much to force FOM into action.
The general F1 player has a controller in their hands. If sales on pre-orders and in the 2 weeks of the release window don't get hit on the head, a critical video months down the line isn't going to compensate for the previous hyping content driving those numbers up.
@mariohomohDo you mean in proportional terms? Cause obviously FIFA games generate millions more than the F1 games so obviously FIFA would have got a larger chunk of change from EA.
@ScarDuck14 Not really. If Codies were to net F1 1000 instead of 100, it doesn't necessarily become a cash cow if those 1000 still mean only 10% of their total revenue. And that can even be optimistic given how FOM bundle revenues up on their reports.
FIFA gets 25% from their brand licensing and we can assume most of it comes from EA pockets. It even got up to 60% just recently. Given that FIFA fails to turn up a profit on most fiscal years, let's say I'm definitely curious to see their reports for 2023 and 2024 🙂
@mariohomoh All good, i know my sentences (longer ones) can be quite convoluted/misleading..
Totally agree that - as proven - the licensing money is not a great deal for FOM etc.
I agree with you that months after release doesnt bother anyone about the current game, but if say the 20 biggest content creators would all release a video saying if things keep like this the next game is not worth the money it can affect things IMO.. Maybe over 100m views on something like that (over all the channels) might have a noticable effect but will never happen
@Meza994 oh definitely. Once content creators and "influencers" get to put out honest takes that actually get to impact initial sales, the picture takes different hues.
Can they, though? Can they actually drive these sales down? 🤷♂️
@mariohomohDoubt vast majority off people who have bought this game know off any content creators. Only videos they have likely watched are setup guides and general hints and tips videos.
Also I’m willing to also bet vast majority don’t put anymore than 20 hours into the game so they wouldn’t care about the issues we do
@ScarDuck14 While what both of you say are legit arguments id say many of those youtubers subscribers play the game.. And many of those really wouldnt care about the issues we have because they dont go that much in depth.. But at the same time those people would not buy a game which their content creator deems "Not worth the money".. lets say half of Opmeers subscribers play the game and half of that dont buy the game because he says its not worth it, thats 100k sales less or ~7 million $ less.. Only for one content creator..
Of course this is only guessworks on numbers nobody can be sure of etc. but i dont think the playerbase is as old as earlier on average and the "young" people sadly do revolve around content creators a lot more than we would like lol
..Its too early to become a boomer😂
In the end we will never know as i dont think anything like that has ever happened nor that it ever will, money rules..
@Meza994 When I refer to content creators. I’m referring to the click baiting screamers. Although I quite like Ben.
I don’t think of the E-Sports guys as those. They do it more for a sideline as they in effect get paid for posting their practice sessions. If the most popular E-sports guys dropped videos openly saying don’t buy the game. That would probably get attention. But I don’t think they would be allowed to by their teams. Also it could jeopardise F1 E-Sports
The YouTubers who particularly specialise in the F1 games are in a tricky spot. They rely on people watching their content for a living and so they suffer personally if the criticise the game to the extent that it reduces overall interest in the game since it will inevitably also decrease interest in their content. Pivoting to playing other games can obviously counteract this to a degree butt they're still bound to lose part of their audience. All the main YouTubers are regularly negative about the game in different ways but I totally understand and respect that there are limits to how far they'd go.
For a little balance I'll say I've just enjoyed spending about an hour driving round Jeddah in time trial, relearning a track I haven't driven for ages. Actually racing that track isn't so great due to the overtaking challenge but I do like it in TT, with cockpit cam adding notably to the sense of speed I think for those who haven't tried it. It also looks decent at the dusk time setting I chose. If I was being picky it would have been nice is the rival ghost 'cars' had had bodies rather than just wheels but we can't have everything!
@ScarDuck14Its as you said, Opmeer is in a better position to be vocal about the flaws.. But i have little faith of things changing..
There are so many easy changes that would help it, changes that are very logically the problem of the current game like what was said pre release that the tires will lose grip faster than previously (not because of wear) because of the differently build tyre (sidewall etc.) which probably went a little overboard again just like in 2021 the rear stability which went too low, 2019 the understeer which went too far..
Its almost like each year of bigger changes the handling model goes a step too far in the direction F1 and experts expect it to go, which is understandable but maybe they should go more carefully about such things in the future, handling changes dont have those extreme consequences since the high downforce era at least compared to whats expected, teams are too good now..
