I am really struggling to set the AI at the correct level for Bahrain, haven't got any further than race 1 yet, started and re-started career mode 3 times.
I have tried using Grand Prix mode to set the AI as I did in F1 2020 and 2021. I did a short qualifying session in a McLaren as Ricciardo, after 3 attempts I set the AI to 84 and Norris beat me by under a tenth of a second. Seemed fine so I started my career, however in Qualifying in Bahrain Norris went a second faster than me, he qualified 9th and I was 16th. I thought maybe it was a poor lap I had done so I did the Grand Prix test again and this time Norris beat me by half a second on AI 84 even though I also went half a second quicker this time.
I just have no idea what level to set the AI to give me the most realistic career, my inconsistent performances aren't helping of course!
i thought i was alone with that. had in f1 2021 the AI on 85 and had a lot of fun in my team BUT in f1 22 i lose alsmost a second on the straight in bahrain. the ai is so fast out of the corner and on the straight it is stupid.
i put the ai down to 50 and well it works somehow BUt makes no fun at all. i hope they fix that very soon very fast

In F1 21 time trial is pretty much how I did set it using F1 laps. I would run three laps and time trial get an average of the three and use their difficulty calculator for each track. It actually worked very very well. I'm hoping there new version comes out soon

It is getting so frustrating now, as suggested earlier , I have tried twice on Grand Prix mode as Perez at Bahrain. I did a 1.31.650 , Verstappen did 1.31.300 at AI level 82.
I tweaked it using the 1 AI point per tenth rule and tried AI 80.
I did a 1.31.340 , Verstappen , 1.31.030 . How can you judge the AI level when the AI level changes every time. Same track , same conditions, but their times can vary by anything up to a second

@NeilUK02 The method is NOT 100% accurate.. the 0.3 sec time difference is within the margin of error (in terms of human non-professional driving),, you have to take into consideration that you are not going to drive the perfect lap but the AI will (in most cases).
Again this brings it back to my original post in terms of a methodology for the game to to determine your AI level.. setting your own AI level gives you NO SENSE OF ACHEIVMENT
Imagine if the game based on your TT sets your AI (with +/-5 pts tweaks) 80 at least when you win the race you know that you did not sandbagged the AI and will feel like a true win .. also in 6 months the game suggest an AI of 95 or 100 and that will be a further achievement
Now its a tedious process of TT then GP quail then getting it wrong (without the ability to change it ).. and all this for an empty feeling at the end
The game asks you to do idiotic/ pointless laps before a race weekend,,, why cant this be 1 shot lap to determine the AI level and then its up to you weather you want accept or even go beyond and maybe get better rewards for that
