i thought i was alone with that. had in f1 2021 the AI on 85 and had a lot of fun in my team BUT in f1 22 i lose alsmost a second on the straight in bahrain. the ai is so fast out of the corner and on the straight it is stupid.
i put the ai down to 50 and well it works somehow BUt makes no fun at all. i hope they fix that very soon very fast
In F1 21 time trial is pretty much how I did set it using F1 laps. I would run three laps and time trial get an average of the three and use their difficulty calculator for each track. It actually worked very very well. I'm hoping there new version comes out soon

It is getting so frustrating now, as suggested earlier , I have tried twice on Grand Prix mode as Perez at Bahrain. I did a 1.31.650 , Verstappen did 1.31.300 at AI level 82.
I tweaked it using the 1 AI point per tenth rule and tried AI 80.
I did a 1.31.340 , Verstappen , 1.31.030 . How can you judge the AI level when the AI level changes every time. Same track , same conditions, but their times can vary by anything up to a second

@NeilUK02 The method is NOT 100% accurate.. the 0.3 sec time difference is within the margin of error (in terms of human non-professional driving),, you have to take into consideration that you are not going to drive the perfect lap but the AI will (in most cases).
Again this brings it back to my original post in terms of a methodology for the game to to determine your AI level.. setting your own AI level gives you NO SENSE OF ACHEIVMENT
Imagine if the game based on your TT sets your AI (with +/-5 pts tweaks) 80 at least when you win the race you know that you did not sandbagged the AI and will feel like a true win .. also in 6 months the game suggest an AI of 95 or 100 and that will be a further achievement
Now its a tedious process of TT then GP quail then getting it wrong (without the ability to change it ).. and all this for an empty feeling at the end
The game asks you to do idiotic/ pointless laps before a race weekend,,, why cant this be 1 shot lap to determine the AI level and then its up to you weather you want accept or even go beyond and maybe get better rewards for that

@SaiSonic666 Thanks, I take your point about the 0.3 gap between me and the AI team mate , but my main point is the difference between Verstappen's times in two or three different GP sessions with the same conditions and AI level. It makes it impossible to set the correct AI level

@bmarcouxIt's out now for F122 :-)
https://www.f1laps.com/ai-difficulty-calculator/Yep I used this

for last years doesn't seem to be tge same page for 22?! I literally wrote every tracks ai level down. Made me laugh when I came to Bahrain this game and was almost 3 secs off My teamate lol dropped to 70 ha. But yea my tactic is to start at 75 then only compare yourself to your teammate, no-one else! In fp aslong as you've used same tryes you can see how quick or slow you are to said teammate.
Adjust 5 for every second needed up or down on the ai level. Qualify should be OK. This does take a bit to get used to doing, but that Web site above is pretty good and I could 1 guess most of the tracks!

Using any teammate as bench mark is NOT the correct way to set AI level
1) The car capability or lack of will undermine ur actual skill.. and thus you will not know what is ur AI level when the car improves
2) Ur actual AI level has to be set against the AI best benchmark which is Verstappen or Hamilton maybe Leclerc.. see when ur in worst car then difference between you those AIs bench mark is down to the car so when you get a similar car to them you will be able to compete against them.. in other words your teammates does not matter because if his not good then ur suppose to beat him
3) in ALL career modes its a moving target since both AI drivers and cars will develop so if you don't improve then you have to lower AI difficulty from the set bench marks of the Year 1
We need EA/codematsers to allow AI changes during race and qualification session through setup menu in teh loading screen like they did in F1 2020 (i think) and before
