I refunded, first time for Codies game. Money talks + feedback why.

FYI, steam refunded my game, even though I was 11hrs in, I documented everything that was going wrong. Because at this point I can't play this game at all (due to several reasons).
Nor is it the game I want to support (due to functional decision - see them listed below).

From a die hard codemasters fan, sad but ey. We've got to draw a line somewhere - otherwise they won't listen. The only thing that talks is money, not feedback. So I refunded + gave detailed feedback why - on tech side & on functional side.

Even if I was 11hrs+ in the game already, Steam/VALVE they accepted without issue.

Last thing I want to say:
- I am beyond sad I had to do this, because diehard CODIES fan. But the direction this is going, like I said, I have to draw a line somewhere as a customer.
-- No one in the community asked for F1 Life!!!
-- No one asked for these Super Cars!!!

We didn't want these things to be added, at all. There are lists and lists on the internet, from leading figures as well, asking other features they/we would like to see. Never did we want super cars, or f1 life thrown into our faces as f1-codies-community. See the videos by Aarav, and other F1-youtubers. Or even on the codemasters old forums (e.g.: https://forums.codemasters.com/topic/92230-f1-2022-wishlist/).

So they knew what we wanted, and chose to ignore a lot of that and give us an empty box that does not even reflect the life of an f1 driver. No it is a microtransaction storefront. Plus super cars that handle like BRICKS. They don't drive well at all, and are not on par on the driving capability of other codies-games where they are implemented.

They need to learn. Only way is giving the feedback and letting your money talk.

So if I'm hearing you correctly; you ditched the game for a refund over F1 life and super cars?   I'm with you; nobody wanted either of those or cared for them and they're simply a way to make more money from microtransactions but lets be honest; they have ZERO effect on the game itself and you can just ignore them.   I have.   I put the plain white F1 t-shirt on my stupid character, put whatever free furniture they offered into my space and I've never been into the mode again other than to unlock the supercars with the tokens I earned in no time.  I havent spend a dime there and I most certainly won't because it has ZERO purpose.

That being said... just ignore it.  The racing itself is still fun.  I told myself if there were only 3 save slots again I'd be getting a refund unless the game was enjoyable.  The challenge of the new handling model has proven to be a fun challenge for me.  Overall I feel the on track action is better, even if only a slight improvement over F1 21.

The things though that you're saying led to your decision to get a refund don't make much sense to me though because you can easily ignore it and not interact with it.  That's what I'm doing. Sadly though if the "visitors" to my F1 life place are any indication it does appear many are spending real money on pitcoins to purchse F1 life cosmetic content that serves no purpose.

Now I certainly agree with you on the neglect of the feedback of the community for things we actually wanted in the game.  To give us F1 life and super cars over improving the actual core game itself is something that makes me really frustrated; so I'm with you on that, but I feel I'll still get enough entertainment value out of the game itself to justify buying still, even if it is only small improvements over last year.

  • As Henry Ford said, if he'd asked people what they wanted, they'd have said "faster horses".

    01. It is also the amount of bugs and lack of EA support during launch. Practically unplayable for me on wheel, as it crashes constantly. Because they failed to test it.
Bugs from earlier games creeping in, as well as bugs being reported weeks ago (ref: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/I-Won-The-Race-BUT-FINISHED-7TH/m-p/11605839#M5121)

    02. It also because I don't want to spend a ton of money (which it is for some) on a game that is largerly refurbished and has just a handling model update - I mean, that doesn't warrant full price, I'll wait it out then and see if patches do fix it, and then maybe I might buy it afterwards.

    03. If it doesn't make sense to you, it does not have to. I am just laying my cards on the table why. And I say: money talks. If people want change they should send that message, otherwise, history will repeat itself like with BioWare's Massive Effect Andromeda & BioWare's ANTHEM; or the FIFA franchise(s).
Yes I can ignore the storefront that is F1-Life, but, more importantly, it constantly reminds me of how much resources went into it, and will continue to go into it designing items and skinning items for it, whilst they could have fixed older bugs (like the timing bug, the SC-bug, graphical glitches, animations that are repetitive); or could have invested in making career outstandingly better as well as the livery editor. Then, I will gladly pay €70. But now at this point.

If that is irrational to you, I understand. But this is my opinion & view which I wanted to share to send a message. I tried to explain above a bit more.

@gallusnumptyIf you are saying this to devalue my feedback, then please expand why.

Secondly, Henry Ford never said that. It is a common misconception he uttered those very words. Someone else used Henry as an example, something like "If Henry Ford would ask ppl what they want, they probably tell him faster horses" - somewhere in the late 90s in a book.

The true quote Henry Ford used was "Being market-led implies being led by the consumer — and consumers are bad at coming up with innovations" - which is true, and I agree with. For the bigger picture this means EA & Codies shouldn't take all feedback and apply it blindly. But to call on this quote and say there is "innovation" with "F1-Life" & "Supercars"... No. EA & Codies themselves even call in the press that this game is rather an EVOLUTION not a REVOLUTION. What that implies is, no innovation 😉.

(edit: if you don't believe me why there's reason to lack evidence on this quote, check https://quoteinvestigator.com/2011/07/28/ford-faster-horse/ or other multiple sources on the internet)

That analogy only works for people who having seen F1 Life are now pleased to have it...
