Idea for F1 23: Allow gears N and R to be assigned to buttons

A real F1 steering wheel has buttons for the gears N and R on it. In F1 21 you can not assign those gears on the wheel buttons. But that would make sense. If you're spinning at high speed, which can happen quickly, you'll need to make up to 9 shifts to get into R:

8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - N - R

With the two buttons assigned it would be two steps only

8 - N - R

To make the game realistic, there should be a possibility to assign those gears to the buttons, so that the player has the power of choice.

If not in F1 22 at least for F1 23 ist should be considered for implementation. Should be an easy fix.

  • Checks bingo card... yay, I've got "should be an easy fix"! Now I only need "it can't be that hard, they should just" for a full house...

  • the game is designed with a controller in mind. there are not any more buttons left to do something like this

@Xterno007 There are even now more options than buttons on the controller and they work together with Fanatec so there should be an option too even if controller drivers would not need it. It’s just an option, not a must to assign these special gears 😉

@Xterno007 So should they remove support for wheels then?

I like the idea as an option. Default settings can be as they currently have it, but for those are seeking greater immersion and who have the hardware to make it feasible why not let it be an option?
  • I know and I would want to have it too, but it would give an advantage to wheel users over controller users with limited buttons.

@Xterno007 there's a whole host of advantages that come with various setups. Wheels themselves are an advantage in some cases, we allow those. Pad's have an advantage in some cases, we allow those. Never-mind the built in assists to the game. Again, let it be an option under assists just like anything else, if certain lobbies wan't to disable "analog clutch" they can.
  • @KVNR01Exactly. Don’t see a problem - if somebody wants to play more arcade game like he can, if somebody wants to get it more realistic, he can too and to be honest, a controller might work but for the better experience a steering wheel is much better. Don’t get me wrong, just my opinion and I never would blame somebody driving with a controller. Everybody can do what is preferred but the same should be possible for steering wheel drivers and they should not be limited to the set of buttons of controller users.
