Loving the handling but the AI is in its worst state

I'm loving this year's game. The handling is amazing and the ffb has greatly improved but the AI is actually getting worse year after year.

The AI is not aggressive, it's just wreckless. When in a train a car is attacked by the one behind instrat of defending it attacks the car in front. It happens every time causing crash after crash. It's something that never happens in real life. Nobody under attack would dive bomb the car in front. They have no awareness of what's happening around in early laps. Their traction and starts are unrealistic. Tyre temperatures are Cleary simulated and there is no way for the user to counter that. In some street circuits they bounce in and out of the wall like there's no tomorrow. You can't overtake them in some corners cause they are notoriously not aware (there are corners in which they just don't detect you or other cars). Lapped cars still park in the middle of the corner and sometimes try to outbrake you in the braking zone or leave their nose in.

There are no sings of balance between tracks, sessions and weather conditions.

At Baku the AI shines. Three wide corners bouncing in and out of the wall. Zero awareness of the wall at turn 3. Multiple glitches and DNFs. Cars under attack that dive bomb the car in front and hit the wall.

I'm almost missing the days in which the AI basically let you pass....

  • @sirio42994 You're so right. But Baku as a track is broken IMO, since I lock up my tyres even when I just look at my brake pedal. Not in TT, but that's not representative anyways. Something is structurally wrong with that track

I've noticed it too. It is the only track where I didn't like the handling. Weird lockups, understeer and the grip seems to be not balanced between sections. Really weird feeling not to mention that in Q1 I hit the wall with the front right and the game gave me a puncture in the front left...

I found the handling at Bahrain to be far more slippery than any other track in the game.  MAybe that's just becuase it's race one and when your car is the worst it can possibly be with no upgrades probably, or it's just low grip level at the track which wouldn't really be unrealistic.   It took me some time to get adjusted to, but I'm ok with it now and when EA applies that fix (if they haven't already) to torque/throttle application it should smooth things out even more as a controller player.

I'm with you on the AI though.  It seems their slipstream effect and DRS effect is far more powerful than what you experience as the player.  This often results into alot of aggressive dive bombs on their part; either into you or into each other.  I love that I've seen replays/highlights post race of AI cars spinning out on their own though, or crashing into each other so I'm pleased with that.   I do find though watching the AI race each other seems very odd at times.  I do also notice they are pretty aggressive at blocking; which is kind of nice that they'll make it harder for you to pass.  What I mean by that is their car is positioned nicely in corners where you can typically try and overtake they make it difficult.  However I do notice some erratic blocking behaviour by the AI that should get them a penalty for weaving.   With a slipstream and DRS you can wait for them to make their move heading into a corner and if you quickly pull the opposite direction to overtake they'll pull over and block you essentially making two moves.  Not a huge fan of seeing that as it's caused some collision and damaged wings and it shouldn't be happening.  I dont want them to dumb it down though because it's providing a nice mix and challenge, but the change of direction like that is a bit bothersome since it shouldn't be allowed.

Please if you developers must tweak the AI don't let it go back to the boring AI trains backing off, let them make mistakes and fight you for the sake of single player fun.

Agree. F1 21 had some fun racing when released, but that was quickly patched away and the ai was back to the boring train status again. It’s a breath of fresh air with f1 22 ai. If I had to choose, I’d prefer the aggressive ai of 22 over the boring ai of 21 any day.

  • Agree the AI is insane. It's one thing being aggressive but another to be stupid. The AI seems to target the player, either dive bombing like some 12 year old kid online, or smashing into the player just for the hell of it. The purposely make it worse every year because all the YouTube content creators want drama in their lame videos. There's no consideration for Joe Normal. It's all just pandering to online drama Queens.
