My final wishlist for F1 23
Hi guys, and hello dear EA and Codemasters staff,
Since the final Podium Pass for F1 22 is growing near, I want to give out my final wishlist for the next game, hoping that any of this will make its way into the game.
First of all, and that's the most important thing in my opinion, is the handling. For two years now, the F1 cars were a lot more twitchy on the rear than in F1 2020 from Codemasters, especially 2021, which was basically Need for Speed with F1 cars, and Need for Speed is an EA game, so you can't deny it. For F1 23, I hope that our friend David Greco makes a more stable handling model, basically a balanced mix between the very stable handling in F1 2020 and the new handling model from F1 22. This would make for a good balance, as this would allow the player to corner more quickly, but not as quickly as F1 2020.
Second, and this is another very important thing, the AI. For two years now, the AI in F1 games were horribly broken on several tracks, having me play on 71, which is 9 levels lower than what I usually go for. I can only relate to Austria, Zandvoort, Melbourne, and Spa from 2021, and Baku, Canada, and Hungary from F1 22. I remember, F1 2019 had probably the easiest AI in my opinion, since I can win easily in a Renault on Expert difficulty, and the AI in F1 2020 was perfect, even allowing me to go higher on the difficulty to fight for my positions. I would really wish to have the AI from F1 2020 back, with consistent pace for every track, and not the AI dominating one track and slowing down on another like it has been these past two years. Even if it would take longer, the AI HAS TO BE TESTED THOROUGHLY, because this is crucial for Single Player, and that's basically what many people play.
For three, I want the Pirelli Hotlaps and Supercars back, maybe with more Supercars to collect, and more challenges to take on. And, I would love to see an option to race with Supercars, and the Elimination Mode that we once had in F1 22 for a short time, is the perfect way to do so, as you don't need to create a damage model for Supercars, and usually, once you screw up once, your race is over, so this is the perfect way to race with Supercars.
The remaining wishes are rather minor, and include:
- If Nico Rosberg makes the cut for the Icons, make sure he doesn't get the 6. I have never used the 6 in an F1 game, and because Latifi was always there, I never had a chance to use it, so I would love to use it for my driver in Career Mode.
- Cem Bölükbasi needs to be in the F2 22 roster, so we can choose him as a starting teammate in My Team. Turkish drivers are as much a rare sight as Russians were back then, and Cem would be the first, so I have some interest in him since you wouldn't expect this nationality in F1.
- Since Red Bull will be limited with their testing time this year, there should be an option in the Career Settings to adjust the rates for Acclaim, Resources, and Cash for every team in the grid, and to simulate this, Red Bull's Resource Rate would be Reduced. This can also be used to strengthen certain teams and weaken others, which can lead to some neat Career Mode scenarios, which is perfect since it's normally Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari that we see in front. Why not Williams, Aston Martin, or even Haas for once?
- I said this in a different post, but when you start Career Mode and adjust the Weekend Structure, there needs to be an option to enable or disable Sprint Races on all weekends, or to have them only on the real race weekends, just like when you set up a race weekend in GP Mode (which can't be reverted once the Career save has been started). I absolutely despise Sprint Races in F1, and I don't think they're a good idea, unless the FIA would go with the same grid rules for them like F2 (best 10 in Qualifying are reversed). Since this is not the case, I want to turn them off entirely.
- We all know that with the 2022 regulations, with the return of the ground effect, most downforce comes from the underbody. This was not displayed in F1 22, as front wing damage still had a very high effect after a certain update. This effect of front wing damage needs to be reduced, but not too much to avoid something like the beginning times of F1 22, where front wing damage had little to no effect unless you lost the entire wing.
Last but not least, and that is another very important thing: If additional tracks like say Portimão, Hanoi, Shanghai, or the Nürburgring get added to F1 23 with an update, please make sure that they are playable in Career Mode from Season 2 onward right away. Additional tracks enrich the lore and give Career Mode more variety, as you can do 23 race calendars with Australia as Round 1, which is exactly what I prefer, since Australia as Round 1 always gets you hyped for more.
And to EA, please, please, please, give Codemasters some freedom to develop the game. Have you never thought why F1 2020 and prior were such a huge success? Because Codemasters care about making the game fun to play for all types of players, and they weren't on such a tight leash back then, they released the game when they saw fit and brought in new updates if the need arises. Always remember, when it comes to an F1 game, quality goes over quantity, and quality has to be the main focus, because otherwise, F1 23 will be just as bad as the last two games, if not worse. What good will all this additional content be if we can't enjoy the game because the quality is garbage? Yeah, wouldn't be very good, if you ask me.
If everything is taken into consideration, I think we might be in for a great time with F1 23.
Good day,
Nico
