Need help! F1 2022 controller layout

It’s been a few years since I’ve played F1 or any console game for that matter. Since the first Forza a long time ago, I have been able to choose a controller preset that allows me to use the right stick to accelerate and brake. I don’t see any presets for the controller layout that will use this setup. in fact, I don’t see any presets, just the ability to customize the layout myself. That is where the problem is. As soon as I set the right stick to do what I want, I start getting the exclamation points warning me of a conflict. So since I am a casual player and use an automatic trans, I figure I can unbind the clutch, upshift, downshift, etc. since I have no use for those functions and can use those buttons for something else. Even if I disregard all the other ! warnings, when I try to save it, it tells me that I need a clutch. What the hell do I need the clutch assigned to a button if I use an automatic transmission?

The funny thing is, there seems to be conflicts in the original setup. The handbrake, pit limiter and DRS are all assigned to the same button and I didn’t do that.

This is way too complicated for someone who is considering throwing this new Xbox off of my 23rd story balcony just for the satisfaction. You shouldn’t need a Rosetta Stone to setup a controller and all of its hundred plus functions.

Surely I am missing something here. Please someone help!

  • @Bendi999 You need clutch for manual race starts.

Some buttons will have multiple uses assigned to them. But won’t be used at same time. For instance. Triangle… F1 cars don’t have handbrake… It only applies to Supercars. DRS only applies when in DRS zone and pit limiter only applies when pitting.
