Imagine being a game dev pitching the idea to senior management and being asked to convince them that the profit lost from the year that is skipped could be guaranteed to be more than recouped in the long run... Also bear in mind that a year wasn't skipped whilst dealing with the challenges of the covid pandemic.
Very, very true. But they’d still make some income from new people coming to buy the game if they didn’t already buy F1 22. Plus, they could just make it a paid DLC for the new liveries, new cars, championship, tracks, etc.
But yes, your point is true - there isn’t any total guarantee they’d make money back in the long run, but I think they’d have a good shot if they chose the right paths.
You raise a really good point too! Although compared to previous seasons, this season (being the second after a big regulation change) there shouldn’t be too many big changes to the strengths and weaknesses, and drag/downforce/power of the cars.
And I don’t think they need to make any big changes to the AI in regards to adapting them to this years’ cars (because of how relatively similar they should be).
But there is always a chance that they might want to make changes to the AI if they believe they didn’t handle the 2022 cars accurately/well enough.
I guess even if we got the game in May, or even June, it’d be better than over halfway (just) through the year like it has been previously.
I personally have no problems with a release even in August because i prefer a well built game with accurate season representation instead of like last year when at release RB and Ferrari had the exact same car ingame.. But i know many players want to play along with the real season so its a fair wish.

That’s really informative, thank you.
I think the problem with a release in August, is that players of the game significantly drop off at the end of the real life season, so releasing the game so late will not be beneficial for their sales. The F1 game is probably better off releasing when the new-season hype in March/April is here. Because it’s also a time where new people are coming to the sport, meaning that it’s a great time for them to get the F1 game.
I think if they made clear that it was just a one-off new season DLC, people would know that it won’t turn into a yearly thing. But yeah, it’s a very valid point.
I suppose a problem with doing a paid DLC is the naming of the game. Because all of the hard copies of the game are named F1 22, DLC-ing it to F1 23 would make the hard copies’ titles incorrect. Although this is quite a minor problem that could easily just be ignored.

What would be your preference?
A) A game released early (say, March/April) with many bugs that will be gradually ironed out - more in line with the real-life season, and released when F1 season hype is peaking.B) A game released at it’s normal time (June/July) with some bugs that will also be gradually fixed - about halfway through the real-life season, and interest is somewhat dropping off for some people.
C) A game released very late (August/September) with very little bugs scattered around the game - towards the latter stages of the real-life season, and interest for the game is relatively low and misaligned with the real calendar.

What happened to May?f
Be no chance off the game coming in March or April
- 3 years ago
Regardless, which would you prefer?
May got temporarily put in the bin because it’s too close to June/July release anyway.
I was trying to go slightly more extreme on the early side, for the sake of clear preferences. - Ultrasonic_773 years agoHero@Radoko34 It very much depends what the bugs are but I'd lean towards option C. Having games released in a state that just frustrates people or leads to them having the game but not playing it due to waiting for fixes doesn't really help anyone.

I’d like it to drop the day preseason starts… You can’t say regardless. It’s simply not possible to release the game in March or April.
As I’ve said previously FIFA that has thousands more people working on it and a massive budget compared to F1 still releases 2 months after the season starts.
It gives the devs time to adapt changes such as accurate car models and liveries. Along which Ai, Physics, and performance so everything represents the current season. It’s a time consuming things.
If they could get the game released in March believe me they would
May isn’t to close to the normal release it could be upto 2 months earlier… and massively more realistic compared to March/April.

Last year, F1 22 was announced revealed in late April.
This year, F1 23 has been teased at the beginning of March, with the general consensus being that we expect a reveal very soon. This is almost two months earlier than last year.Hence, there’s a chance we could be getting an earlier release this year, as their usual checkpoints on the way to releasing the game are all coming early.
Edit:
How does this reply already have so much XP?

I suspect somebody accidentally marked your post as the solution and then corrected it. Enjoy your bonus XP 🙂.
Time will tell whether the game gets an earlier launch or not but it certainly looks like a possibility. I'll admit I was very surprised to see the game announced as early as yesterday!

Yeah maybe. 😅
Thanks for letting me know. And yes, I too was surprised to see a teaser so relatively early in the year compared to before.
Looking good for an earlier release at this stage…
