Qualifying practice program theory.

So got a qualifying practice program at Jeddah and smashed it by 2 seconds.

So thinking out loud.

Previous games qualifying practice program would give you targets based on where your car was in the performance rankings.

This year I don’t think this is the case.  Whenever I’ve miserably  failed the programs I’ve been in top 3 powertrain rankings.  But a lot lower in the overall performance rankings  I’m currently 7th in the performance rankings. However as I opted for Renault power I’m 10th in the powertrain rankings with only Alpine behind me.   And about a minor engine power upgrade behind Williams.

So I think qualifying programs are solely based on where you are on the power train rankings..  this makes more sense as I bet most people pick one off the top three powertrains at the start. By chassis and aero are massively lacking.   Putting Ferrari power in the dog off a base my team car makes the car harder to control effectively.

it’s like putting a high torque 420bhp v8 lump into a family hatchback.   For it to work you need to lighten and stiffen chassis. And  Upgrade everything to rated performance parts like all cars manufacturers do to their top  performance models. Audi A3- rs3 bmw 3 series - m3

Im not saying the game is right: it’s obviously wrong.  The practice programs should be based on overall performance rankings and not just power rankings.  Was it, is it a oversight  by the devs or even miscommunication between devs.  Perhaps.

btw, patch 1.07 has something to address the difficulty of practice programs will be interesting to see what is affected

So I started a new MyTeam career. Exactly same settings as before. Bahrain qualy lap program I can now get in the green (just about). Other practice programs are easier too. Looks as though the patch is doing what it says on the tin.

Whether or not AI in the race have also been tweaked, I don’t know (will do the race tomorrow to see). If AI in race has not been tweaked this should mean practice programs have been brought more in line with player ability (at least for me), while keeping the race experience the same. Thinking about it, they might have done so, as actual AI qualy pace goes hand in hand with qualy practice programme, ditto for race pace.

    Will see tomorrow…

Hi @ScarDuck14, I too fail miserably with the qualy pace program and your post piqued my interest enough to try a test.

I always seem to pass the each lap in the race pace lap time by a few tenths and fail the qualy programme lap time by around 1 sec. Which I’m OK with as I’d rather have race pace than 1 lap. Have always used the Merc engine. Setup 2 new MyTeam careers, one with the Merc engine, and one with the Renault engine. Setup the careers exactly the same (same difficulty, calendar, settings, answered all questions the same etc.)

Ran qualy pace programme in Bahrain in both careers with exactly the same setup. It didn’t work for me; still about the same amount off in qualy pace. Was really hoping this was the reason ☹️

😡 sorry fella and cruel irony or something I just started a new career using Mercedes and can’t pass qualifying program again.

If it is as my theory suggests/. It maybe cause off the upgrade I choose in the interview. Traction out off corners  drag and drag again. Opt for chassis facilities and get a minimum r weight reduction before Bahrain and then all subsequent upgrades are either weight reduction and drag reducing.  If  chassis and aero are not being taken into account. Those two areas of weight and drag give you outright pace

I was doing a practice program when the patch dropped.  It definitely had an effect on my car as it was et berserk and crashed into a wall at jeddah😀

So now we’ll in about a hour gunna start again and  hopefully I can pass with a decent engine.

But did Bahrain. Before patch Passed programs but way off the pace.  Corns qualifying my team was 8th in the rankings. I qualified in 4th: wow.  0.5 off a second behind max on pole:  did race max Perez sainz and lewis were all 2 seconds a lap faster than me.  So hopefully it makes sense now

You sure that wasn’t you 😎

From what you’ve said it sounds like they might have tweaked the AI, or some kind of funny thing happened as the patch was implemented when it was in your race weekend.

will be interesting to hear your experience 👍🏽

So I did the race in Bahrain it feels like the AI has also been adjust downward, but marginally - a few tenths per lap. @ScarDuck14 thoughts?
