Re: AI race pace discrepancy compared to Practice Programs

Just so I am under no confusion, if in RPP, for regular length and speed tracks, if you are between 0.0-0.3 below delta (so delta is in green), then you’d be able to compete in the race ok?

That's exact!

The issue I have in Miami is that I am below delta (so delta in green), by at least 0.3 but I cannot even get close in the race, which leads me to believe the RPP needed to increase the delta time.

Your chart is interesting, as it is very likely there is a direct correlation between length and average speed for AI performance - I remember reading that 1 AI point equites to roughly 0.1s in lap time.

Linking the two (and using avg speed and length tracks as a base), one would have to increase AI for longer tracks with higher speed and vice versa for shorter tracks with lower speed?

I will check my general performances in races to see if the above holds true (I keep my AI at 90). There may be slight differences in my findings due to ability on certain tracks, but will be interesting to see.

I've raced only once in Miami and I didn't had any special difficulty but that's very personal. For example, I've read people here complaining about Baku and Sakhir - tracks where I smash the AI. On the other hand, someone said that could do well in Suzuka and man... I always had such a hard time in Suzuka. I'll leave here a chart with the AI levels I came after the process I described above on F1 2021 season 1. On season 2 I would just find the AI level suited for Bahrain and them adjust the AI for the other races accordingly. Example: if Bahrain season 2 would be 5 points harder than season 1, then the whole curve would decrease by 5 for season 2. That's why I said it's painful on season 1 but easy from there on.

I definitely think you should build your own - so to say - AI profile. Some hints I can share are:

- go for a midfield team with no special performance in powertrain, aero and chassis. The 3 must be more os less equal so you don't get abnormal results in specific tracks.

- 1 AI lvl = 0.1s works but if you're too low in the selected AI (let's say you picked 80 but the right AI is 95) then 1 AI lvl = 0.2s. Why? I don't have the slightest idea but works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

- 25% - 50% should work. If they are racing you too hard a 100% race would be a pain but also, if you choose a very short race, then you would miss some different stages of the race that are important to analyse.

- always look to the chart comparing the teams performance during the race weekend and try to match your times in FP sessions (using same tyre) and Qualy - on qualy I assume the AI is 2 points faster then in the race.

- on wet weather I don't feel much difference. But people usually say to decrease the AI by 3-5 points. Feel free.

- warmup: do some 10ish laps in time trial before you jump into the race weekend so you don't go too green when assessing the AI.

Overall I reckon this huge difference in AI to be very frustrating. I mean, I'm chemist and I love to design experiments, find answers, plot charts and trends and etc to find what the heck is going on. But the majority of people don't like that and the game should cover it. I'm more into ACC right now and so far I'm not having this issue (but it does have others haha)

Have a good day everybody.

Dan.

    All,

I’ve set myself up a little spreadsheet and re-started my career.

I will keep the AI at 90 throughout and farm for data; Will note down all targets and my performance in practice programs, qualy and in races, compare this against car development as well as teammate performance.

Once I’ve got data for decent mix of tracks (maybe around  halfway in the season), will report back.
