Re: Fuel Consumption

@SexyBrigadeiro Awesome work young man. Just raced Bahrain 50%. Started with+0.9 and finished with +0.74. That said it could have been fixed in the latest patch…🤣😂😂😂 I crack myself up😇

But that said.. I did completely deleted my save game data before downloading the new patch. Then started a new my team career and gotta say game ran like a dream. Even the ai behaved. Even on last lap they were all under half second faster than their previous lap.

    Glad to hear that, mate!

I haven't tested the latest patch yet (actually I've literally just downloaded it, but won't be able to play the game today, for I need to leave to work soon - yes, real life sucks sometimes - lol), but I hope it also feels good for my continuing career - my next (MyTeam) race is round 8 (Silverstone for me) in Season 5 and I really didn't want to start a whole new career now, so.. I hope that whatever fixes they made actually work on 'old saves' and not only on fresh new careers..

But I'm happy to have more and more confirmation that just trusting on those 'green & blue numbers' ("Average Fuel Burn" and "Race Fuel Load") do the trick and help us to carry the exact fuel load we need for each race - cheers & happy racing!

Oh, I am not going to do that for 1.12, I am past Monaco in current season and that is always my nightmare 😉

Fuel efficiency is not mentioned in patch list by it may hide under "various minor fixes", as usual.

  • So... here we go again.

Just like @ScarDuck14 I started a new save after updating on yesterday's patch. Driver career mode, 100% race on Bahrain.

    I tried what @SexyBrigadeiro suggested:

1,82 kg/lap times 57 laps equal 103,74 kg. A little less than the fuel load the game suggests (carga de combustível da corrida in pt-br). Well, to much of my surprise this is the fuel load on the pre-race strat screen:

106,0 kg. Well above what was suggested before hand but showing that this allowed me +1,0 lap of fuel.

So I decided to race anyway and was kinda of a pushy race. I had to overdrive about 2/3 of the race to protect me from Alonso and ended it with +0,71 lap. The 1/3 of the race where I had some peace, the fuel consumption kept steady at around +0,82.

Some posts back I said that using ERS/DRS on race strat programme would result in less fuel consumption than a race situation where we tend to use less ERS/DRS. So this fuel difference should be taken into account and waived in the pre-race screen. This 106,0 - 103,96 = 2,04 kg difference seems to be taken back into account.

Bottom line: either it was patched or is something that happens to some users regardless of console, assists or whatsoever. Mind blowing to be honest.

I own the stardand version and I see that most own the champions edition. That's the only difference I see but that'd be too ridiculous.

I don't think CE might have any impact on it. It should only give you extra drivers, some pit coins and perhaps  some non-essential stuff, such as a rug in your living room (very useful for racing!! LOL )

But you also use some fuel when revving the engine on start grid, even if you don't use immersive formation lap. Could that account to extra fuel game adds to total amount for race?

(I usually start revving after four red light because I need to set up MFD first so I am not revving too long)

  • @P4st3l1ak I guess it counts but at the same time you are talking about some 3-5 seconds time span over the course of an entire race. This is should be marginal.

    @dancrodrigues

    Oi, Dan!
Apesar de você ser brazuca (assim como eu), vou responder em inglês pra que todos possam entender, beleza?

Keep in mind those 103,96 (104) kg are for 57 laps and you're burning almost 2 (1,82) kg per lap, so.. those 106 are for 58 laps, as we can see on your screen, so.. the math is correct (not to mention the formation lap is the 58th lap).

To be honest, I think the calculation and values you got are pretty accurate and fair - I mean.. there was a difference of only 2kg between the results you got on the Program and what was suggested for the game on the Pre-Race Screen - that's a very small discrepancy of less than 2%, so I'd say that's acceptable and within that 'safety margin' (adding a little extra Kg, just for safety) and because of the extra lap/formation lap: 57 laps of race / 58, with the FL, etc..

Also, I assume it's a whole new career and your car is still not well developed - especially the Fuel Efficiency components inside the Power Train Department - so maybe that explains why you need so much fuel and even a little extra for the race, because the measurement made based on only 5 laps wasn't enough to be super precise (maybe it will be more precise - and give you a smaller total fuel load - as your Fuel Efficiency/Power Train components are developed).

But all in all, I think my suggestion of keeping an eye on those two values ("Average Fuel Burn" and "Race Fuel Load") is still valid and should work for everyone - I also suggested to add a little extra Kg just to be safe anyway..

With that said, I still need to have my first race after the patch, which I plan to do it later today, at Silverstone (MyTeam, Season 5 - car fully developed) - yes, I'll be streaming it on Twitch (just sayin'..) - and then let's see IF the total fuel load (and projected number of laps) shown to me are 'normal' values again, or if I'll keep getting those crazy values..

Things we still need to try to find out for sure:

    - If there was any official changes/updates to fix this issue in this last patch (1.12)

    - If the changes/updates/fixes only affect fresh new careers, or if they also work on 'old' saves/careers (like mine, for example)

I'll give you guys some feedback after my race - cheers, everyone!

    FEEDBACK AFTER PATCH 1.12:

The problem was NOT solved for me and it's still there.

MAYBE it works ok only for fresh new careers/saves (a theory I would still need to test myself), but at least for now, the projected laps are still messed up for me - the actual fuel calculation is still ok, especially if you trust those values for Average Fuel Burn and Race Fuel Load after you complete the Race Strategy Program.

I've just raced at Silverstone - 26 laps race (50% real life distance) and the Race Strat. Prog. gave me a total of 40.8 kg of fuel for the race.

On the pre-race screen, the game suggested me 41.2 kg (probably that little extra for the Formation Lap, which I don't do, but the game probably adds it anyway) - then I decided to go with 41.0 kg and that was more than enough for me to finish the race pushing without worries about saving fuel - actually finished the race with fuel for 0.78 extra laps left on tank.

The only problem was the projected number of laps, as I said:

The game suggested me 41.2 kg, which was - according to the game - enough fuel for 32 laps (out of only 26), so.. the game is still giving me about 5-6 extra laps - which is in fact extra fuel for only 1 or 2 laps.

Anyway.. I can not trust these projected laps on the pre-race screen (and also on whatever extra laps of fuel show on my huds during the entire race - because sadly, they show that crazy and wrong value), but as I said, I can trust on those values from the program and on the total amount of fuel the program gives me, then put them in the car and just race without any worries about the fuel - no matter what else the game tells me.

I will TRY and start a new career at some point, just to check and see if the projected laps are correct for that - and if so, we might be pretty sure the 1.10 patch somehow glitched some (or all?) of the old careers (pre-patch 1.10), but all new careers (after patch 1.10) should not have this projected laps glitch - this is my best theory for now..

    CONFIRMATION / SOLUTION:

The problem is on some (or all?!..) 'old' career saves (pre patch 1.10).

I just started a new MyTeam career (which I'm not gonna continue - it was only for this test) and did the Race Strategy Program at Bahrain - keep in mind the car is NOT developed at all (season 1, my car is one of the worst on the grid and I did NOT upgraded ANY of the Fuel Efficiency, or other Power Train - or ANY other car parts - at all) and still I got both the fuel calculation and the projected laps RIGHT - let me show it with pics:

I did only the race Strategy Program - all 5 laps - and then just accelerated time to end the session (Free Practice 1) and I got a Race Fuel Load of 49.52kg (enough for 29 laps, keeping a strong pace, using DRS/ERS as much as possible through the laps).

Then I moved straight to the Race session (skipping the other FP sessions and Quali as well) and on the pre-race screen, I got this from the game: 51.5 kg of fuel load - probably that little extra for safety + the Formation Lap (even if you skip it) - but keep an eye on the Projected Laps of 30.6, which makes sense now (FL + 29 laps + little extra safety fuel = 30.6):

And then, just for confirmation, I decided to mess with the fuel load a bit and inserted the same 49.52 (in this case, 49.5) kg that I got from the Race Strat Prog. results and.. voilà! I got fuel for 29.4 laps (29 + little safety extra):

    CONCLUSIONS:

    - The actual Fuel Calculation is OK.

    - The problem is/was only on the Projected Laps for each fuel load.

    - The problem seem to only appear on some (or maybe all) career (Driver/MyTeam/Co-op) saves pre-patch 1.10

    - The problem is NOT present on new career saves (after patch1.10)

IF YOU STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM:

Just trust the values for Average Fuel Burn and Race Fuel Load after you complete all 5 laps in the Race Strategy Program, add a little 'safety extra' Kg (0.5 to 1.0 Kg, more or less) and you should be fine to complete the race without any worries about the fuel - no matter how developed or not your car/power train/fuel efficiency components are.

    ...

@joshhhhmcgill (and everyone else) I think we can consider this topic/issue as 'solved' - maybe mark this post as the 'solution' to anyone who still has this issue - and thank you guys for the help in getting to the bottom of this (I think we did it!) - nice teamwork - cheers, boys & girls!

@SexyBrigadeiro You did all the work dude You deserve all the credit.

That said I’m wearing my smug face right now. Because I always delete my game saves. Before adding new updates and the restart. I know this is not ideal for most. Just nutters like me. But for a good few years now actually since project cars 2. If I get a new game that has a ton a off bugs and know it’ll take a few months before enough off the major bugs are fixed: I generally spend that time playing around with the game settings mechanics. so when the time come I’m confident the game is finally in a good state. I’ll delete everything including the game. Do one last reinstall then play seriously.

And I always see posts saying game is still broke after last patch. Where my game seems fixed. But when I reply to people suggesting deleting previous saves. More often or not I’m told I’m wrong and it doesn’t make any difference. 😂

@ScarDuck14Thank you, my friend! But honestly, we got to the bottom of this together - all of us here, in this topic - and without each other's insights, we wouldn't have figured it out, so.. honestly, kudos to everyone!

There's still the 'mystery' of why the patch 1.10 screwed up this particular aspect (projected laps on fuel calculation) for the old saves (it was all working fine before that patch), but at least we also have a 'workaround' for it, so it's all good, I guess..

I also understand and even agree with you and your approach to solving some of the problems with games - sometimes the best to do is to actually just reinstall everything and sometimes (when possible) get rid of old saves and restart your actual game progress again - I know it's not always possible or ideal, but it actually help to solve some/most of the issues sometimes..

In my case and in this particular game, I'm already halfway through my MyTeam career and I can't play the game as much as I wanted to due to 'real life chores' (lol) and so I really don't want to start a fresh new one, so.. I'll just try my best to keep going with my original and 'old' save and I HOPE that most of the problems this game (sadly) still has can be solved even for us 'old savers' - lol

Once again, cheers, everyone and let's keep trying to make this game better and better!

@SexyBrigadeiro Up until last year I have only ever met and spoken to one Brazilian woman. She was a  beautiful person. You know the type you’d introduce to your mum whilst your dad whispering she’s the one. Unfortunately she was already  married 😔

Then Last year I bought  F1 2021 which Codemasters had changed their  approach the default setups. And alittle perplexed and hating the shame I felt for even considering asking for help I reluctantly found myself post a thread on Codemasters forum asking for help and clarity. The first reply was lengthy but  perfectly explained everything I wanted and needed to know.  As Rene said to Tom Cruise in Jerry Magiuire.  @mariohomoh  had me at hello.  And I soon found myself returning to the forum became a prolific poster sometimes it was good stuff sometimes id rant but mostly it was nonsense. But it was long before I genuinely considered Mario my friend.  And over the last year he’s become a good friend.  Then Codemasters forum support was moved here and reluctantly I came over here.   But what I find funny. With millions off people with hundreds off different nationalities.

Along with Mario. You and  @dancrodrigues  are the 3 people I get on with and like the most. I suppose   @Ultrasonic_77  is has his moments 😜

    @ScarDuck14

    Long story short:
Brazilians are awesome people - well, maybe not all of them/us, but at least the ones you mentioned - LOL

Thank you very much once again for your kind words, not only on your previous post, but in all of the posts where we 'bumped' into each other so far - you always have some nice words and constructive things to say, even when you disagree about something - you also seem pretty reasonable, patient and wise (with a great sense of humor), which we all know, it's extremely rare in 'The Internet', so.. it's great to have other nice people to talk to and discuss about this game, simracing, motorsport and Formula One in general and I feel good knowing that what we're doing here may be super small, but it actually helps the game(s) to be better!

You know when people use the term 'the community' to refer to a group of people who are doing something nice, cool and/or positive, TOGETHER? Well, I feel like we're part of a group like this here - and the things we're doing, etc.. - so.. yay - let's keep it up, guys!
(also because this particular game still has a LOT to improve/fix - just sayin'.. - lol)

Hm, interesting approach. I would assume patch release notes should inform you that you need to open a new game save if changes affect the game so significantly (you get such notes in other games 😉 ) and previous saved games may not be compatible with new changes.

However, I didn't expect this in F1 saved games as I assumed saves contain state, not game mechanics. But you never know 😉

@P4st3l1ak I don’t know the witchcraft behind it. But I get no game crashes no lagging or screen tears. Occasionally replay will stutter at race start in heavy rain. I still get the general silly bugs which we all experience. My biggest issue is when they patch the Ai. Because it’s always seem to use the easy option adding a buff or a nerf and my pet hate scripted behaviour

I completely agree and I can only guess that they didn't expect this to happen either and it was probably a 'side effect' (a bug/glitch) that ended up affecting some (or all) pre-patch 1.10 game saves - BUT if this was known, then they should've told us (although it's still a shame that we would have to drop a mid-career save and restart all over again - whatever they do to fix this game, should NEVER force people to restart their career/game progress - or at least the devs should do ALL they can to prevent that from happening)..

    ...

    @Tribladez

"Season 3 of our co-op career, where you're forced to go to track at Bahrain for FP1, we both ran the race strategy program and both quickly went into negative fuel remaining despite both starting on +2.5 laps of fuel. Every other race in the season, we've done quick practice instead and have had zero issues with fuel, generally starting at +0 laps extra at the start of the race, and ending +1/2 laps over."

Sorry, mate, but I think you didn't read the actual post with the solution to the problem, where we found out that some/most (but probably all) of the career saves pre-patch 1.10 have this issue, but there's also a way to solve (work around) the problem.

As you said yourself, you and your friend are on your season 3 of your co-op career, so that's definitely a pre-patch 1.10 save and that's why you guys are having the issue.

Please, take the time to read everything in the link below and if you guys follow all the info/instructions, you should be good - cheers!

@SexyBrigadeiro Yeah, you're right. I did miss that post. Thanks for providing the link. FWIW, I came to add my findings (I've long suspected it was the race strategy program causing the issues, but couldn't be completely sure until recently), saw someone had come to the same conclusion, so replied to that and missed a few of the posts afterwards.

No worries and it's all good, mate!

At least now we know it was not the program (that was wrong), so.. you CAN do the program just fine, keep an eye on the final values for Race Fuel Load, add a little extra of about 0.5-1.0 kg to it and you and your friend won't have fuel issues during your races - OR.. start a new career and the fuel projected laps will show correctly!

    Cheers and happy racing!
