Re: Switching from Controller to Logitech G920!

@dancrodrigues I was thinking this exact thing myself, especially after I first purchased the wheel and the initial novelty was there. I thought that it was definitely going to be a gateway into getting a far more expensive wheel but after a while I realised that for all I need, it's perfect. I am not driving competitively, even online, and while having a stronger feedback force would be nice I don't think I need to break my wrists or really wrestle the wheel 😂

It would be an absolute luxury having Fanatec or high end Thrustmaster but it really be wasted on me as I doubt that it would improve my skill ceiling.

Having said that I have added some quality of life additions such as a magnetic shifter mod, a phone holder for SimDash app (which works great for telemetry in F1 series but sadly doesn't work for ACC) and I'm currently finishing up on a 3D printed F1 steering wheel mod replacement.

@TotosHeadphones I'm still eyeing a better kit. Will probably go with the Logitech G Pro one as Fanatec fails to deliver a more reliable quick release system and the I get easily spooked by the post-sale support stories you find online 🙃

What I'm expecting? Having more fun 😊
Haha no wishful expectations about getting better. Just having more fun with a richer and more engaging FFB.

It's definitely an expensive hobby though, so that's a dive I'll take only when I feel it's right.

When I used to do track days with Audi owners club.  Used to make me laugh.  Fair enough helmets on track are mandatory.  But guys would turn up in the full kit.  Racing overalls gloves and shoes.   All to drive their daily drive around a track alittle bit faster 😂.

    Enthusiast’s 🙄😂

My man, I'm getting home so tired lately that I'm happily using the automatic gearbox haha Last thing I wanna is to work all day, go to the gym and then wrestle the wheel!

Recently I also placed a phone holder for telemetry and If I'm not wrong this app works for ACC too, gonna DM you with it!

Other than this I've disassembled the pedals base so I could switch the entire brake and clutch pedals to make it more confortable, my left knee ended up desperately screaming for help after any 100% race. Changed the springs and also changed the wheel rim for a more formula-ish like. Did some painting too. I believe I'm the last original thing on my poor G29. haha

@mariohomoh I think as a hobby, we're quite lucky that the there's quite a spectrum of peripherals that can be bought and the entry level options will largely offer a decent experience in comparison too the higher end. But as with most hobbies you can tailor that experience with how much money you put into it. Almost very much like how it was when I met my wife; the more money thrown at dates and gifts, the better the result for me! 😂

I looked at the specific wheel when it was released and it's just too expensive me and the level I play at. I also looked at the Moza R5 which is probably the cheapest direct drive set and I may consider that if I don't do the torque mod on the G29

@dancrodrigues  Which one? Please do! I'm using Sim Dashboard, my mistake originally. It's really customisable but apparently the developers of ACC won't send the makers the telemetry data.

Nothing is ever yours until you customise/hack/paint the heck out of it I say! Just need to add vinyl wrap to my wheel and tidy up bits. Had to spray paint it because it was printed in pink. The last time I'm letting my girls pick my 3d filament...

    @TotosHeadphones   Specifics please😂😂😂 Sorry couldn’t resist 😜
  • So @biboto came here wanting to know some things about braking and a wobbly power jack and is getting tips on braking, modding, 3D printing, dashboard telemetry apps, some criticism on if it's worthy or not to upgrade to higher end wheel bases, dating and even an insight on socks worldwide.

Well done guys, I'm so proud of ourselves! haha

Oh yeah! The power jack! It's just like that!

I'm mostly on console so that nips down my options to the bud 🙃

A good medium kit from Fanatec + shipping + taxes would cost me $2497.20 with 1 year warranty plus the inconvenience and costs of shipping back and forth if needed.

Logitech G Pro kit costs me $ 2498.92 with 2 years local warranty with a RMA service I can personally vouch for

Those figures are in dollars, by the way. It's almost like Logitech flexed those big, sound, consolidated long-lived corporate muscles and knew exactly how to price their products outside of the US/EU zone 🥲

@biboto with my old G29 I felt the same as you, brake pretty hard also because in that period I still had to tune my driving position. Besides it was too close to the accelerator pedal which forced me into an unnatural position. So I immeditaly decide to use the clutch pedal instead, much softer, today I would say perhaps a bit too much, but once I got used to it I have to say that I found myself fine (no aids).Have you ever thought about trying it?

@Nuvolarix Good suggestion. A lot of people just switch the two springs as they feel the clutch spring is far more natural and you don't need to be on protein shakes and doing leg days at gym to get that pressure on the pedal.

Pointless update on this, but since @dancrodrigues launched a campaign to hut my personal finances and make me unsound decisions. Total price (USD), including shipping and taxes:

    • Fanatec kit (DD Pro 8NM base, Formula V2.5 Wheel, CSL Elite V2 Pedals) - $3011,46
    • Logitech G Pro Wheel and Pedals - $2502,94

So an USD 508,52 difference in favor of Logitech. Probably even higher as I did not have it in me to update the international shipping estimates for other forwarding companies I had sampled and went with only one quote.

  • @mariohomohI would never - ever - advice you on unsound decisions.

But do not forget to invite me over to test your brand new wheel! 😁✌️

@mariohomoh@ScarDuck14@dancrodrigues  Cammus are releasing as a very cheap entry level direct drive wheel and base, positioning around the same price a G29 or cheap Thrustmaster. It's called the C5, very affordable if you don't want to break the bank but I'll be looking at the reviews with interest

@TotosHeadphonesIt obviously not going to be designed to be on par with current DD wheels. But at that price it just needs to be better than the G29 and the like.  Plus work on console

@TotosHeadphones wasn't aware. I don't follow Cammus much. But console compatibility is very interesting!

And daamn did you break this news here! Media is still catching up, first proper piece made on it was 15min ago on Traxion

@mariohomoh Haha, if only I was that quick off the mark! I happened to find it on YT with my algorithms and then I looked up Reddit. It's a really interesting piece of engineering; most bases house the large motor and then have the wheel attached to the motor/base. However, they've made the wheel itself house the motor, so the base is tiny with varying levels of customisable tilt. With the wheel being the motor, the torque is handled slightly differently (too much for my brain to decipher 😅) but it explains the weird ergonomics and form factor and also how it can be so cheap. It'll be perfect for a desk mount, so bringing down the costs of having to buy stand/rig, which is another big outlay.

As a brand Cammus are trying to shake up the market a bit. Their first wheel and base, while PC only, had some positive reviews. It was aimed more towards drifting as it lacked a display and buttons on the wheel, but it came in at a competitive price. I'll keep an eye on what they do as they're trying to be a bit different.

@TotosHeadphones The new wheel is hideous but I love it that they're trying something new. And the idea on paper has indeed the potential to deliver a crispy, responsive FFB.
I'll wait for a few reviews though 🙃

I remember their past products having some glaring quality control issues - like a heatsink not properly sat atop of the chips - and some criticism over how their FFB feels, but those are all that new company trope. Would be lovely if they cleaned up their operation and improved on those areas, I'll keep my eyes open.

@mariohomoh Oh it's hideous, it's a got a face only a mother (developer) could love! With no viable means to change the wheel itself it'll be a no go for a fair few people. Actually, at 12am this morning I was contemplating buying one as I was workinhmg out how I was going to repair a broken switch on the G29!

I mostly saw a few positive reviews but I suppose I didn't really delve into the other important parts. It wasn't for me. As a new company it's bound to have teething issues and question marks over quality. Additionally, they're already a step behind due to certain regions preemptively having a negative view on Chinese engineering, so they've also got to fight off that notion. Good luck to them, they've not copying existing models out there, so I hope they continue to bring Innovative and affordable solutions to the sim world.
