Re: Troubleshooting for Xbox One and Series S/X

Make sure your Xbox is up to date

First, make sure that you’ve fully updated your game and your Xbox.

You’ll find information on the latest system software version and instructions for updating your Xbox on Microsoft’s Xbox support site at support.xbox.com.

Restart your Xbox

If you’re on Xbox Series X|S, hold the power button (Xbox button) down on the console itself for 10 seconds.

If you’re on Xbox One, try restarting your router and power cycling your console.

If you’re on Xbox 360, turn it off and unplug it for at least 30 seconds. Plug it back in, then turn it back on.

Do you have Xbox Live Gold membership?

You need to have an Xbox Live Gold membership to access the online features of your game.

Not sure if you have Live Gold? Here’s how to check:

  • Go to xbox.com.
  • Click on your Gamertag.
  • Click Subscriptions.

You can see there if you have a membership and when it will expire.

If you had it and cancelled it or let it expire, it will show under your Canceled subscriptions.

Check your error and status codes

If you see an error or status code when you try to connect to a game, search for the code on this Microsoft page.

If there’s a match in the Xbox Live database, the results will tell you what caused the error and what you can do to fix it.
