Now Spa. Same AI and settings for the race. Wasn't expecting this at all, put the Haas into 3rd 2+ seconds ahead of K-Mag. And should have been faster but messed my final lap up. Managed to stay in 3rd but might have been 2nd but for a little mistake on lap 8 and beat K-Mag by 19 seconds. But a 25% test round Spa isn't long enough to see how tyres performed, but It seemed a lot better, but that's cos the car was performing. I was in the top 5% in the weekly round Spa over the weekend.
@DRudd13 On fast tracks we humans seem to be faster. And slow tracks the ai have the pace.
I’m only average, due bad eyes bad fingers and bad age.😀 but I know most off the tracks intimately. So where I lack overall pace I’m as consistent as a metronome.
Why we faster on fast tracks. Ai is slow into and through corners. And with less slow corners compared to fast it can’t dominate us over a lap.
Slow tracks lots off tight corners for it to power out off and average racers using a pad are lambs to the slaughter
@ScarDuck14 I don't think I'm far behind you in age, been playing F1 since the 90s. My First computer was a commodore vic20 in the 80s.
Do EA/CM know about this and are they working on a fix? As it doesn't seem to be listed in the community raised issues. But your findings seem to be right.
Just thinking about my Hungary test. On level 75 I need to find over 3 seconds a lap to win the race. So Around level 40!!
I did do Spa 50% on 75 and pushed Max all the way, But my tyres were a little worn by my pit stop and race finish. Going to mess with steering angle settings today.
@ScarDuck14 I've re-done the tests with a new steering angle, and I still think it's tyre wear not affecting the AI as much as it affects the player. Settings were clear session 25% race on level 75 no recovery mode. I had been thinking that maybe the player was at x4 and not x2, but that wouldn't explain why those doing a 100% race are thinking the same.
As I've said before, I think after 3/4 laps on 25% they have barely suffered any tyre wear, and are able to catch and pass you as if they have more straight line speed. So if you're doing 50% it will be between laps 6/8 and 100% it will be laps 12/16.
Going to post the results and compare the default set-up v my set-up side by side. Sorry, will be a few posts.
I've also just passed the Singapore weekly event on level 92. So going to do that test later today, But before I do that, Where do you think I'll finish in a Mercedes around Singapore on level 75, If you were judging it on last years game?
Hungary in the last test on 75 I did a 1.19.5 with steering angle at 360, and my teammate did a 1.19.6. But I won't be comparing to that any more, as it's a different game now with more angle.
With the default setup on 75, I did a 1.19.3. 0.15 tenths quicker, and 0.35 ahead of my teammate, but still around the 3 tenths you should allow.
With my setup on 75, I did a 1.18.9. 0.4 faster than default, and now 0.8 ahead of my teammate. But despite my improvement, I'm still the same distance to pole, just under a second????
I managed to get more information for this test. This post is about the soft's tyre temps at pit stop. I kept a close eye on them all race.
The first surprise was how hot the temps got with the default setup. You'd think they would be easy to control using the recommended setup?? I was able to control them better with my set-up, but still hotter than the AI get with their consistently perfect temps.
Here's the wear on the soft's at pit stop. No really difference, mine is a little more, despite controlling the temps better during the stint. But I'll trade 2% more wear for the extra speed per lap if the AI were suffering the same wear.
Medium tyre temps at the end of the race. The default was better on the temps on these, but still slightly hot. My set-up handled the temps well on these tyres.

Race results. As you can see, at both races those in front pulled away, and I had a train behind as I battled and positioned the car to keep them all behind. If it were a track with a slightly longer straight, it might look like they have more straight line speed. But I know it's not, as I'm faster for the first 3 laps.
My times, just to show that nothing major affected my race. I was going to post my teammates times after, but no point, as I effected everyone's times behind me.
Max's times. So IF he is using the default set-up, you'd think his temps and wear would be like the wear and temps I had using the default set-up. But that doesn't seem to be the case with these times.
Spa qualifying. Pole with both default (0.23) my (0.7) set-ups. But what I don't get is the gap to my teammate changed from 3 seconds in default to only 2.5 to my set-up even though I got half a second quicker he went a second quicker. Surely he should get slower?
But any way with both times I'm thinking as long as I point it in the right direction I should win this on level 75 especially my set-up time.
Spa soft tyre wear at pit stop, again no real difference, So I've gained half a second without affecting my wear. And lasted to the predicted number of laps.
Here's max's times from my set-up run. Remember, he was 0.8 behind in qualifying.
So I asked this question around patch 1.06, and I'll ask it again now before I go to Singapore. Somebody, please make it make sense. Because at the minute I'm regretting buying the game and for the last 3 years games I've done 10 full seasons in my team. But I can't start one till it makes sense.

What if it's not tyre wear, but that is the most logical thing to think.
What if It's something more sinister? Like adaptive AI kicking in after qualifying, even though I'm on expert and should have no effect at all. So for the race I'm racing on a level it thinks I should be playing at, but would also put me on a level where I'd be playing where any little mistake would have me losing out. Just the loss of 0.7 seconds from qualifying to the race at Spa really has me at a loss to how and why it happened.
Edit discount the silly sinister theory, as it's not adaptive AI, just qualified 20th 10 seconds off 19th and only got to 9th. But something isn't right.
To add a little more context to my findings, I'm going to do a few more posts on this subject, then leave it alone.
My first run through on GP level 70 15 lower than last year, is to find out my AI level the way CM/EA want me to do, short qualifying, default set-up and compare to your teammate. Easy to work out from 70. If you're 1.7 ahead of him, it should be AI 87 if it's 2.9 then AI level 99. So after the first season I have 22 times ranging from AI 65 (Monaco) to 99 (Belgium). So I work out my average by taken the top and bottom level out to average the remaining 20 levels. It came out at level 82 only 3 down on last year. But I had struggled in all the GP races on level 70, only Monaco was below that level. So my level on My team, Driver Career and the weekly event are all around the same as last year's game, maybe a little higher if I'm honest. But I'll start on 82, and it won't change till I win both championships after starting from newcomer position, and that's why getting a Good AI is so important. So some tracks, I’ll be good at, some I won't. Should take me a good 3 seasons to do it, which feels like a natural progression. I do like to get the trophy for winning the championships in GP mode, But season 4 In the McLaren this season on 68, and I'm still struggling to win races. Even though I'm on levels above 83 on the tracks so far, I should be strolling to victories. So instead of putting myself through any more misery on GP mode, I’m going to knock it down to level 50 to mitigate the tyre wear difference in 5 lap races in a Ferrari just to get the trophy, I feel I should have won already.
But this morning I decided to start 2 Driver career's in a Haas on level 75, 1 starting in Hungary, 1 starting in Belgium. Made sure both qualifying and race were dry.
I'll compare them to the races I did using my set-ups in GP mode. At Hungary, my level came out at 75, Belgium 99. Here's the performance of the Haas for the Hungary Driver Career, Still A mid-table team and on 75 Anywhere between 11-14th would be a respectable qualifying.
So I'll post the GP pictures first, then the Driver Career 2nd.
Qualifying all cars were around a second faster than GP mode, Upgrades and driver boosts will be the reasoning behind that. GP mode I did 1.18.9 in driver career I did 1.17.3. 1.6 quicker. Pole was 0.8 quicker and teammate was 1.2 quicker. So a solid 6th again in a Haas.
In GP mode, the leaders pulled away, and I was forming a train with slower cars on my heals. The leaders didn't pull away as rapidly in the driver career, nor did I have a train form or feel at any point they had better tyres than me.
